  • Sufficient Calibers

I stumbled across this and had to share it:

    Sufficient Calibers

Retired Army Green Beret Smokey Taylor was court martialed this weekend, and came away feeling good about it. Taylor, at age 80 the oldest member of Chapter XXXIII of the Special Forces Association, was on mock trial by his peers under the charge of “Failing to use a weapon of sufficient caliber” in the shooting of an intruder at his home in Knoxville, Tennesee, in December. The entire affair, of course, was very much tongue in cheek. Taylor had been awakened in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, 2007, when an intruder broke into his home. He investigated the noises with one of his many weapons in hand. When the intruder threatened him with a knife, Taylor warned him, then brought his .22 caliber pistol to bear and shot him right between the eyes.

A couple of cardinal rules were broken here:
#1 Never bring a knife to a gunfight.
#2 Never enter into a gunfight with a caliber that doesn’t start with a 4.
    #3 Aim center mass!

  • Kucinich is out

    No, not that OUT…
He’s only pulled out of the Democratic race for the Presidential Nomination.
He says he wants to continue to serve in Congress, and, the people of Ohio are apparently stupid enough to keep re electing him…

  • A Farewell to Gaza

The New York Sun has an excellent editorial on the recent wall bombing by Hamas and others:
Rather than forcing the Gazan Arabs to join with the West Bank Arabs into a state of “Palestine” that has never before existed and has few of the elements of a successful nation-state, why not let Gaza revert to its pre-1967 status as part of Egypt? Egypt, at least is a country with which Israel has a peace treaty and diplomatic relations, which is more than can be said for the Hamas terrorist organization that now controls Gaza.

Part of me really likes that idea. However, part of me is disgusted that Israel is alone among nations. The purpose of a military in war is to take and defend land, that Israel’s military managed to capture (Conquer) Jordanian and Egyptian land, while they were at war with Egypt and Jordan ought to be viewed as part of the common practices of nations. For some reason, however, Israel doing what nations and nation-states have done throughout the course of human history is viewed as either being wrong or onerous. That Israel’s conquest occurred in the twentieth century could be one reason, Nazi Germany’s conquest of Austria and Poland and France were not allowed to stand either. But, there is a pretty large difference between the two, Germany LOST the war in which it expanded it’s borders, Israel did not. The biggest component I can see for the widespread support of a new nation called “Palestine” is anti-Israeli sentiment, basically good old fashioned antisemitism with a new politically correct label. However, the territories in question are, for now under Israeli control, and that would make the attacks by Hamas and other terrorist groups a civil war, wouldn’t it? Those funding Hamas and the other terrorist groups, therefore are actively supporting a rebellion against the rightful and lawful government.

  • LA Times Writer Slams Revisionist Historian

    LA Times Article
In his review of ‘God’s Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570-1215’ by David Levering Lewis,Tim Rutten slaps around the revisionist history of the book so well, you’d never think he wrote for the LA Times.
    Money shot:
In other words, the West would be better off if it had been incorporated into an all-conquering Islamic empire in the early Middle Ages.

    OK.

Still, it’s fair to wonder why, if that’s true, the West ended up with the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution and the Scientific Revolution and the Islamic world got chronic underdevelopment, a pervasive religious obscurantism, Al Qaeda and the trust fund states of the Arabian peninsula? It’s also fair to point out that both the Muslim philosopher Averroës and the Jewish philosopher-physician Maimonides were sent fleeing for their lives by Islamic fundamentalists and not the Christian Reconquista.

Wow. A writer for an unabashedly liberal newspaper opines that Islam might not be the “Religion of Peace and Scholars” as we have been told again and again, even by people who damn well know better… That is, to say the least, unexpected.

  • Atlanta Mayor Slams Bill Clinton from Pulpit

At a memorial service honoring Martin Luther King Jr, Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin took a shot at Clinton’s referring to the political rise of Barack Obama as a fairy tale.

But, wait a minute, I thought speeches that favored one candidate over another from the pulpit were wrong, and to be investigated by the IRS? Oh, that is yet another rule that only applies to Republicans…

  • “No woman is illegal,” Clinton said, to cheers.

Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton, in a trip to Las Vegas, to pander to illegals and their supporters, answered with “No woman is illegal,” after a man shouted that his wife was an illegal. Afterwards, she slammed Obama’s record

“He was a part-time state senator for a few years, and then he came to the Senate and immediately started running for president,” she said. “And that’s his prerogative. That’s his right. But I think it is important to compare and contrast our records.

    OK. Lets.

Mrs Bill Clinton’s record includes hiding Rose Law Firm records, firing people that she had no right to (travelgate) shady land deals (whitewater) dubious investments (cattle futures) being cheated on by a notorious and unashamed Bill, running for the US senate in a state she had only visited before (They used to call that carpet bagging…)and immediately beginning to run for president.
Yeah, her record is markedly different than Obama’s. Obama’s record doesn’t include carrying water for a philandering spouse or adopting the pose of a dutiful wife and mother.
Hillary ought to use BOHICA as a campaign slogan

  • Bush Screws Israel

There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967. The agreement must establish Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people. These negotiations must ensure that Israel has secure, recognized, and defensible borders. And they must ensure that the state of Palestine is viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent.

Thus spoke President George W Bush.

The occupied territories, have been occupied by Israel since Israel whipped the combined forces of seven Arab nations. This is important, because, historically, conquest is how nations acquire land.
The US, with the Louisiana Purchase from France and the purchase of Alaska from Russia, is one of the very few, if not the only nation to have expanded it’s borders by purchasing, rather than conquering lands. That Israel has been, for the past sixty years, the only democracy in the region, should be enough of a reason to side with the Israelis on this question. That they are hated for the race and religion of their populace should bring liberals screaming out of the woodwork to defend them. That Arab nations have funded the “palestinian” campaign of terrorism against Israel is another reason the US should stand with Israel.

Not too long ago, President Bush stated that other nations are either with us or are with the terrorists and that the United States would fight terrorism and those who support it anywhere and everywhere it is found. Well, damn, George, what happened to that? The Israelis have tried, time and again to negotiate a peace with those Arabs who call themselves palestinian. The palestinians and their supporters, the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah have bombed, murdered and fired rockets into Israel in direct violation of treaties they begged and pleaded for.LV Sun/AP story

  • Failure calls Bush “One of the Worst Presidents”

Madeline Albright , whose failures as Secretary of State are too numerous to list is out bashing the President to hawk her latest book, Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America’s Reputation and Leadership. What does this woman know of leadership? Shouldn’t she be writing a manual for getting screwed by the North Koreans?

She said the next president needed to do a better job of being aware of the interests of other nations.

Um. Damn, that is just halfway stupid isn’t it? Yes, we need to know what other nation’s interests are, but, the President’s job is NOT to cater to the wishes of foreigners. I guess Albright could be an authority on the interests of North Korea…
