    Karen Mallard; idiot with a gun

    Mick sends a link to 13 News Now which reports on Congressional Candidate Karen Mallard, who is, apparently, worried that her husband is going to shoot up a school with his AR-15 rifle, so she hacks off part of the barrel, you know, as a political stunt;

    Well, after folks “gunsplained” to her that she just created a “short barrel rifle” (SBR) which is regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934 and that she didn’t get the permission from her local law enforcement to create the rifle and then paid the $200 tax to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, you know, like us law abiding gun owners have to do, she got a little worried and scolded folks;

    And yes for all the NRA trolls out there, I finished the job according to regulation and turned it over to the police. Why are you more outraged about me taking a gun out of circulation than about our children being murdered in our schools?

    She can take all of the guns she wants “out of circulation” as long as she keeps her grubby little dick-beaters off of my guns. None of my guns will ever be used in a school shooting. Some of them I’ve owned for more than thirty years and I’ve never harmed anyone with my privately-owned guns.

    Mallard really didn’t do anything except that she made sure no one in her household can shoot people with that gun. But, it was only to convince folks to vote for her, anyway, so it really doesn’t matter.

    The linked article above says that the BATFE is investigating the candidate. I’m not holding my breath until I see her in a courtroom, though.

    By the way, she did that thing I mentioned last night “I grew up in Wise County, surrounded by guns. Our family had guns my whole life. We use them for hunting, for protection, and recreation.” I’ll bet she has a Black friend, too.

  • DoJ to turn over “Fast and Furious” documents

    DoJ to turn over “Fast and Furious” documents

    The Hill reports that the Department of Justice will comply with a 2014 judge’s order to turn over documents regarding the failed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Operation Fast and Furious which armed Mexican cartels with more than two thousand firearms, some of which have turned up at crime scenes on both sides of the frontier, including the murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

    The Justice Department, then run by Eric Holder, declined to provide documents on the program to Congress in 2012 and was held in contempt of Congress. Today’s decision ends six years of litigation with the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

    “The Department of Justice under my watch is committed to transparency and the rule of law. This settlement agreement is an important step to make sure that the public finally receives all the facts related to Operation Fast and Furious,” Sessions said in a press release.

    The Hill article fails to mention that Holder was also in contempt of a judge’s order to turn over the documents to Congress (the People’s representatives). From US News and World Report;

    A report by the Justice Department Office of Inspector General in 2012 found that neither President Barack Obama nor his attorney general at the time, Eric Holder, were aware of Fast and Furious until 2011. Nonetheless, as Holder refused to provide documents about the operation to Congress, he drew unrivaled scorn from GOP lawmakers, some of whom openly considered the rare step of pursuing impeachment proceedings against him. The House voted in 2012 to hold him in contempt.

    A federal judge in 2014 declined to uphold the contempt finding, calling the House’s motion “entirely unnecessary” but also ordering the Justice Department to produce documents to the committee.

    AG Holder refused to comply with the order. So AG Session is only complying with that judge’s order. I’m sure that it will be portrayed in the media as some sort of “pay back” to the Obama Administration by Trump.

    I remember when Obama and Clinton were saying that we needed more gun control laws to prevent guns from going to Mexico when the Obama Administration was actually facilitating gun shipments to Mexico, telling US dealers to look the other way while straw purchasers carried guns to the cartels.

    14-year-old phony cop

    Fox News tells the story of a 14-year-old in San Bernardino County, California who was making traffic stops and conducting phony domestic abuse investigations around town dressed as a county deputy and driving his great-grandfather’s SUV;

    Detectives determined in the course of their investigation that the boy interacted with at least two other people while impersonating a deputy.

    “The suspect again activated the emergency lights mounted in the vehicle, causing a white male, approximately 16-years old, to come out of his house,” the sheriff’s office said. “The suspect again claimed to be investigating a domestic disturbance call. When he was told, there was no disturbance, the suspect left.”

    On the same day, the teen also pulled a woman over and gave her a warning before letting her go, officials said.

    Deputies later stopped the Ford Explorer and found the uniformed teen inside.

    During a search of the 14-year-old’s home, detectives found the uniform worn during the incident, in addition to a large amount of counterfeit money, fake guns, ballistic vests and other law enforcement related items.

    If only there were laws that made this stuff illegal so kids wouldn’t be tempted to do this stuff. Junior was on probation at the time of his arrest.

    John Shannon Simpson; Marines & Mickey valor thief updates

    About a year ago, we first wrote about John Shannon Simpson who founded the charity Marines & Mickey. His story was that he was a Recon Marine and drill instructor. He filched several thousand dollars from another charity, the Lance Corporal Skip Wells Foundation which caused them to go public about his dealings. Now he claims that he never made those claims about his service, according to Nooga;

    Part of what got Cathy’s trust was Simpson’s assertion that he was a“Force Recon Marine.” Weeks compared that title to a Navy SEAL. Essentially, it’s a high ranking, he said.

    Simpson said in a statement on his website that he never made that claim, but an old version of Simpson’s website reads, “Marines & Mickey began in May 2014, founded by John Simpson, a retired Marine who was a Recon Marine and also a Parris Island drill instructor.”

    I wonder how he explains this polo shirt with Navy parachutist wings and a scuba bubble;

    He was in fact a finance clerk who went AWOL according to his Marine Corps records and a local media article that reported his arrest on a military warrant;

    He was subsequently the subject of a special court martial and discharged as a Private (E-1);

    Simpson of course, continues to deny that this is the truth and he has threatened the Lance Corporal Skip Wells Foundation with a lawsuit;

    Simpson said his funds helped send 14 families to Disney between July and February and that the organization is sending another family this week.

    “They tried blackmail and extortion,” Simpson said. “I will be filing lawsuits against the Skip Wells Foundation [and] all of its board members.Also, we will be filing suits on two other foundations and several scum across the nation.”

    He also said: “In short, I am doing great.I am a successful businessman and always will be.I am a very proud Marine.Our foundation is still going and will not stop.And I will also have a smile on my face once these morons receive their lawsuit papers.”

    Christopher Morton; Officer down

    Top Kone sends us the sad news that Clinton, Missouri Police Officer Christopher Morton was killed in the line of duty;

    At approximately 9:20 P.M. (Central) Tuesday, Officer Morton and other members of the Clinton Police Department responded to a 911 call in which women could be heard screaming in the background. As officers arrived, a gun battle ensued and Officer Morton and two other officers were hit. Officer Morton succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other officers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals paid tribute to the Army National Guard veteran in 2014;

    The Clinton, Mo., police officer who was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday night was honored by the Royals in 2014 for his military service in Afghanistan.

    Officer Christopher Morton, 30, was killed while responding to a 911 call, was in the Our Heroes seats (now called the Salute to Service seats) on June 5, 2014 at Kauffman Stadium.

    Morton was in the Army National Guard, had been twice deployed and returned in May 2014 from Afghanistan. He told the Royals he served as a bridge crew member and radio communications manager.

    […]

    The Royals tweeted: “We are saddened to hear the news regarding Clinton, Mo Police Officer Chris Morton this morning. He was honored for his military service at #TheK in 2014. Our thoughts are with his family today.”

  • Benjamin Thomas Wolf; “Cannabis candidate” under fire

    Benjamin Thomas Wolf; “Cannabis candidate” under fire

    Benjamin Thomas Wolf, who calls himself the “cannabis candidate” in the campaign for an Illinois Congressional seat because he has put the legalization of marijuana at the center of his campaign, you know, in spite of the myriad issues we face in this country these days.

    In addition to smoking pot in his campaign ads, he also makes statements that might lead people to believe that he served in Iraq in the military as well as statements that indicate that he was an FBI agent;

    He’s never been in any branch of the military and Wolf says in public that he failed the agent testing at the FBI Academy. According to Fox News;

    “People in the military get upset when I say I served in Iraq. The military doesn’t have a patent on the word ‘served,’” he told Politico.

    In a news release last week, Wolf’s campaign also identified him as a “former FBI agent,” despite contrary claims by the agency.

    A spokesperson for the FBI told the Chicago Tribune that the candidate worked at the agency as “a non-special agent professional support employee” rather than an agent.

    Yeah, well, now he faces charges of abuse from a former campaign intern;

    “He actually hit me, threw me to the ground, put his foot on my chest. He was really angry. He grabbed my face,” Katarina Coates, who interned for Wolf’s campaign, told Politico.

    She added: “I thought it was normal. I cannot explain the logic. It seemed like he cared about me when he did that. After that time he stood on my chest, he went and took me for chocolate cake. I kind of associated it with his caring.

    “There were times I would ask him, ‘Do you ever regret hitting me?’ He would say: ‘No, but I’m relieved when you put your head down so I don’t have to do it again.’”

    No surprises here. He looks like his picture should be in Webster’s under “douche bag”, and folks who mislead about their service are usually abusive to people around them.

  • Thursday morning feel good stories

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    From Baton Rouge, Louisiana;

    According to Sgt. L’Jean Mckneely Jr. with BRPD, a 34-year-old man kicked in the door of the apartment and forced his way inside.

    Mckneely stated one of the three people in the apartment at the time grabbed a handgun and shot the intruder multiple times.

    He said the suspect tried to run away, but collapsed outside the apartment. He added the suspect was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

    Authorities said the man will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of home invasion once he is released from the hospital.

    An update to the story from Baker, Louisiana;

    East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release Tuesday that one of the suspects, Michael Duchamp, 31, died Tuesday as a result of gunshot injuries sustained when the homeowner fired at him during the attempted robbery.

    Anthony Myles, 30, was arrested Tuesday morning and accused of going to the house on Gretna Green Drive along with Duchamp and one other man, and attempting to rob the homeowner, Hicks said. An arrest warrant has been issued for the third suspect, Arthur Rogers, 32, who remains at large.

    Hicks said Duchamp, Myles and Rogers went to the house of Duchamp’s neighbor on Monday afternoon. The three then got into an altercation with the homeowner and Duchamp allegedly struck the homeowner with an object, deputies said.

    The homeowner then shot Duchamp, leaving him with critical injuries.

    From Monroe, North Carolina;

    An armed suspect picked the wrong man to rob early Tuesday morning in a Cookout drive-thru line in Monroe, according to a police report.

    That’s because the victim turned out to be James Hughes, former Monroe police sergeant and Army veteran.

    Hughes told Channel 9 he was in the drive-thru around 1 a.m. Tuesday when a man stuck a gun through his window and demanded money.

    “My first thought was to take the gun away from him,” Hughes said.

    Training from 24 years spent in law enforcement and eight years in the Army kicked in. Hughes wrestled the robber for the gun and even thought he may have to shoot the suspect with his own gun.

    “Years in law enforcement kicked in and I was afraid if I had given him my money, he would’ve shot me anyway,” Hughes said.

    Once Hughes had the gun, the suspect ran off.

    Hughes followed the suspect’s vehicle so he could get a description of it and the tag number for police.

    He said he was on the phone with 911 dispatchers when the suspect leaned out the car window and fired two shots at him.

    “Apparently they had a pistol in the vehicle,” Hughes said. “I’m not aware of what it actually hit, but I’m just glad it missed me.”

    Hughes stopped following the car and waited for police.

  • Connecticut’s Governor Dannel Malloy: NRA is a ‘terrorist organization’

    The Washington Examiner reports that Connecticut’s Governor Dannel Malloy told FOX61 that the National Rifle Association is a terrorist organization.

    “They act quite frankly in some cases as a terrorist organization,” said Malloy. “You want to make safer guns? We will boycott your company. That’s who they are. That’s what they do.”

    Malloy said the NRA is a different organization than what it used to be.

    I don’t know what he means by making safer guns, but I have to think that the governor means “smart guns” which is an inexact science these days. I don’t expect him to know that, because the governor uses words he doesn’t understand – like “terrorist organization”. I don’t remember any reports of the NRA using car bombs to get their point across. None of the recent shooters were NRA members. No enemies of the NRA are being burned alive in cages. These are things that terrorist organizations do.

    The NRA, however, merely represents five million members in the halls of Congress.

    Jennifer Baker from the NRA, released the following statement in regards to Malloy’s terrorist remarks:

    “ The NRA is comprised of over five million law-abiding citizens many of whom are teachers, doctors, policeman, farmers , moms and dads residing in Connecticut. So let’s be clear Governor Malloy just called tens of thousands of his constituents terrorists.

    He’s used to that, though. His recent gun regulations made thousands of his constituents criminals overnight.
