    Guest post; Why North Korea is being friendly – A fictional meeting between Xi and Kim (or not?)

    George V sends this thoughtful piece;

    So, the NORKS are talking nice to us. Wow – let’s all celebrate. Or maybe not.

    Maybe here’s what happened: China’s Xi invited Kim to lunch, and over some kimchee and rice Xi said “Kim, stop being an idiot. Pissing off the US will not get you anything, especially with a Republican president. Make them mad enough they will come at you. But if you play nice with them in a few months you can push them around like they have casters on their shoes. In 12 months you will be able to stick your hand in the back of their necks and make them say whatever you want.”

    “Learn from the Chinese example. 25 years ago we were a 3rd world joke. We made nice with the west, said things like “market economy” and “reforms” and “freedoms”. The western political and business leaders fought each other to get into China like a Black Friday crowd at Wal-mart.

    What?

    Oh, uh.. just..look it up on the internet. What? W-A-L-M-A-R-T, got that? Anyway, these fools agreed to all our terms, they let us own over half of what they built here, they f&*^ing GAVE us all their technology, they even taught our engineers in their universities and even put them on leading edge research projects. They let us pretty much take over half their manufacturing and now they can’t build a cheap toilet without us. And now, we can build anything they still make, like cars and airplanes because we learned how they have done it.”

    “And at the same time they pretty much dismantled their long range military assets while they got their private parts caught in the Middle East. Reminds me, I need to thank those Taliban guys in Afghanistan, maybe buy some drugs from them I can resell to those MS-13 weirdos in the States at a profit. The Taliban will buy some AKs or ammo from us so it all works. Wait, where was I?”

    “Oh yeah, so, now we’re popping out new weapons – ships, tanks, fighters and all sorts of new missiles and s&*t – we’re puttin’ em out like hens poppin’ out eggs at one of their factory farms. Those fools in Washington can’t touch us now. If they tried we would squash them like I had to do to that freakin’ spider in your crummy bathroom when I stopped by your place.”

    “And, now that we are not a 3rd world s^&*thole, and are d#$n near the biggest economy, to the point where everyone is signing up for our “Belt and Road” thing (and is that a great scam), we can go back to being what we’re supposed to be – a dictatorship. The citizens who now work in our new economy won’t rock the boat, aside from the occasional… what do they call them…“dissident?”. The people want their paycheck. The peasants actually haven’t seen a major difference in the past 25 years so they won’t care. This whole change in China has been a scam on the West and nobody on their side had a freakin’ clue. I swear, as long as you talk nice you can take off these guy’s pants, take their underwear, redress them, and when they get ready for bed they’ll wonder where their boxers went. No, Kim, no – do not not actually try this, please.”

    “So, again Kim, make nice with these guys. Feed them a line of BS how you’ll open your markets, treat your people better, and such. Smile and wave. They will give you whatever you want, at whatever terms you want, as long as they think they can make money. And you will have to let them make some – but it’s OK, you will come out ahead on any deal. And you will have to let your people have some stuff – but you will find your people will forget all the crap you and your family have done to them over the years. Once you’ve got your economy rolling, the families of folks you’ve been shooting with AA guns will bury you in cheers right up to your phenomenal whitewall haircut.”

    “And, after you’ve taken over another goodly chunk of their economy, fire up the nuke project, build some new tech weapons and quietly do away with anyone who makes noise against you. By the time they wake up, you’ll be able to shoot down, sink, or otherwise obliterate anything they sent your way.

    One last thing – if you don’t make nice to them, I’ll pound your head with a 50 ton hydraulic press.“

    Sunday morning feel good stories

    From Southworth, Washington;

    Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of someone trying to break into a home on SE Scatterwood Lane, off Southworth Drive, at about 2 a.m. Thursday.

    The caller reported hearing a loud banging sound on windows on the lower level of his home, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office. The homeowner, who had a handgun, also reported hearing yelling outside the house.

    When he opened the door, the 28-year-old man allegedly charged at the homeowner and pushed him. According to the statement, the homeowner fired one shot at the 28-year-old man, who continued to try to enter the home while yelling “Let me into your house.”

    The man eventually collapsed at the threshold of the door, where Sheriff’s Deputies found him, according to the statement. Deputies reported that the man was soaking wet, shaking and had scratches on his face and arms.

    The suspect was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma with non-life threatening injuries, according to spokesman Scott Wilson.

    Good news in Yakima, Washington;

    No criminal charges will be brought against three Yakima residents involved in a violent home invasion that led to the death of two suspects last weekend.

    “It is clear that the homeowner in this horrific event was defending himself and his family from intruders who had unlawfully entered his home and were attempting to rob him at knifepoint,” Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic said in a news release Friday evening.

    From Charleston , West Virginia;

    A man was confronted by a homeowner when he broke into their home on Smith Road in Charleston Thursday afternoon, and police say Joseph Buckland didn’t stop there.

    Charleston Police say that once Buckland took off from the first home he hit on Smith Road, he broke into two more homes while the residents were inside.

    Officers eventually found him hiding at a home on Birch Tree Lane.

    Anthony Whitlock was home when he heard a commotion.

    “I kept hearing this thudding noise so I wasn’t sure what was going on,” Whitlock told WSAZ.

    He armed himself and started to check out the house.

    “I came down the basement steps onto the landing and there was a guy trying to get into our basement door here,” Whitlock said.

    Whitlock described coming face to face with Buckland as he wrestled with the door.

    “The first thing that runs through my mind is, I don’t know this guy from Adam so I don’t know what he’s doing trying to get into our basement, I don’t know if he’s whacked out on anything, I don’t know if he’s armed,” Whitlock said. “I don’t know if maybe he knows the tenants that lived here before me and is trying to come find them … I don’t know what’s going on.”

    Whitlock yelled and scared Buckland off.

    Charleston Police say he was found hiding in a closet inside a home, also on Smith Road.

    Police say the homeowner fired shots. Buckland escaped and ended up at a house on Birch Tree Lane.

    “All of these other homes are all families, you know. Everybody up here has kids of different ages, there’s a couple of older people that live up here, and that’s another reason we thought this neighborhood was going to be a lot safer and apparently it’s not,” Whitlock said.

  • James Shaw, Jr continues to save the world

    James Shaw, Jr continues to save the world

    The other day, we discussed James Shaw, Jr who disarmed a gunman in an Antioch, Tennessee Waffle House, saving countless lives. Soon afterwards, he started a GoFundMe tincup to benefit the families of the victims and the survivors. At this writing, he has amassed $182,237 – more than ten times the goal. Another guy was moved to start a GoFundMe account to benefit James and his family. That endeavor has resulted in $191,536 so far.

    From CNN;

    Tennessee lawmakers this week also paid tribute to Shaw, 29, for his heroism and his compassion for the victims. The state General Assembly officially recognized his heroism, along with his “penchant for honesty,” in a joint resolution.

    “You are my hero,” state Rep. Jason Powell said, “and Tennessee’s hero.”

    I’m sure that Mr Shaw never figured this would happen when he first grabbed the hot barrel of the gunman’s rifle, but it is nothing less than what he deserves.

  • Ron Etzig; Phony soldier

    Ron Etzig; Phony soldier

    Someone sent us their work on this Ron Etzig fellow who claims to be a paratrooper and a combat veteran in the 82d Airborne Division;

    Deciphering a confusing FOIA submission, it looks like he enlisted in the National Guard on December 5, 2008, went to basic training on May 4, 2009 and then went home on May 20th. 16 days of active service;

    Thank you for your service, Ron.

  • Jon Tester’s shame

    Jon Tester’s shame

    Democrat Senator from Montana, Jon Tester made baseless allegations against Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson last week which caused Admiral Jackson to withdraw his name from consideration as the director of the Department of Veteran Affairs. Now, it seems that Tester just made shit up, according to the far-right wing Associated Press;

    The records, including police reports, show Jackson was in three minor vehicle incidents in government vehicles during the last five years, but none involved the use of alcohol and he was not found to be at fault. In one case, a side-view mirror was clipped by a passing truck. In another incident an enraged driver in Montgomery County, Maryland, allegedly punched out Jackson’s window during a morning drive to Camp David.

    The White House medical unit that Jackson ran successfully passed regular controlled substance audits, according to the records for the last three years. The reviews did recommend improvements to the medical unit’s handling of controlled substances, but did not find misconduct.

    The Associated Press reviewed the documents Friday. They were the result of an internal White House review of allegations raised against Jackson during his brief confirmation process. The White House says the records, covering recent years, disprove the allegations.

    CNN alleged that Admiral Jackson, in a drunken episode, “very loudly knocked on a female colleague’s door. Secret Service agents allegedly had to calm him down so he wouldn’t disturb President Barack Obama.” According to Mediaite, the Secret Service could find no incident report;

    “Over the last 48 hours, media outlets have alleged that U.S. Secret Service personnel were forced to intervene during a Presidential foreign travel assignment in order to prevent disturbing (former) President Barack Obama,” the body said in a statement to ABC News. “The Secret Service has no such record of any incident; specifically, any incident involving Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson.”

    Additionally, the Secret Service claims that it reviewed internal documents pertaining to President Obama’s foreign travel in 2015 and interviewed personnel who went on those trips. They found no evidence that would indicate the events reported actually occurred.

    Yet, CNN complains when the President calls them “Fake news”. According to Roll Call, the President is calling for Tester to resign;

    President Donald Trump escalated his feud with Democratic Sen. Jon Tester on Saturday morning, using a tweet to call for the Veterans Affairs Committee ranking member to resign.

    From Fox News;

    Raj Shah, White House deputy press secretary, also blasted the claims against Jackson.

    “Sen. Jon Tester engaged in character assassination against a decorated rear admiral in the United States Navy, and he didn’t have a shred of evidence to back it up,” Shah said, according to Politico.

    Just like every other Democrat “Issue”, if the truth doesn’t bear them out, the Democrats just make shit up.

  • Robert Kenneth Hume; warrant issued

    The other day we talked about Robert Kenneth Hume from San Diego, California who applied for a job as chief of the Marietta, Georgia Fire Department. Of course, he saw a need to pump up his resume with some phony military service and a forged DD214 discharge record. Hume also applied for a similar job a year ago in the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) but he couldn’t be bothered to answer his phone for the telephonic interview. He also applied for a chief job earlier this year in Escambia County, Florida where he had to compete with 76 other candidates. He applied for a fire chief job in Harlington, Texas in July 2014. Hume really wants to be a fire chief – even in Boulder, Colorado, earlier this year.

    Anyway, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, there is now a warrant issued in Georgia for Mr Hume;

    An arrest warrant for Robert Kenneth Hume accuses him of submitting paperwork to officials in Marietta, Ga., showing he’d earned military honors — including a Silver Star — that he did not actually receive, and showing that he’d achieved a higher rank than he did while serving in the U.S. Army.

    An email to Hume on Thursday was met with a call from attorney David S. West, Hume’s lawyer in Georgia. West said his new client will go to Georgia to surrender himself and address the matter.

    “Right now we don’t have any comment on the reason this occurred or what may have happened — but I can tell you that he retained me, and we are going to appear and address this,” West said.

    “He’s not running away from this. He wants to deal with it. Within the next couple of days we are going to have a chance to get the warrant taken care of.”

    Maybe all of those places where he applied for a fire chief job should compare his resumes.

    Saturday morning feel good stories

    From Lansing, Michigan;

    A female caller told 911 an armed man had broken into the residence and was fighting her husband, police said. The woman and her husband, both injured, were found outside the home when officers arrived, they said.

    The pair, police said, told them they fought the man and were able to escape outside as officers arrived. Police said they entered the home and found the alleged home invasion suspect dead.

    Both homeowners were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. No arrests have been made, they said.

    From St Louis, Missouri;

    St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden said the off-duty officer was with three other off-duty officers at the Bomber O’Brien’s Sports Bar, located at 4621 Beck Avenue. Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, the off-duty officer and the suspect got into a confrontation, during which the suspect fired shots at the off-duty officer, striking him in the wrist and arm.

    After being shot, another one of the off-duty officers returned fire, striking the suspect in the lower extremities and shoulder.

    The suspect and off-duty officer were taken to the hospital for treatment. Friday morning, police said they were both listed in stable condition.

    From Raleigh, North Carolina;

    A robbery suspect was shot and wounded when his intended victim fought back and opened fire on him in downtown Raleigh, authorities said Friday.

    Jonathan Tyrone Peace, 28, has been charged with common law robbery in connection with the incident Thursday in the 300 block of South Blount Street around 3 p.m., police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed for medical treatment to WakeMed. Information about his condition was pending.

    Police said Morgen Matthews, 23, was walking on South Blount Street when Peace tried to rob her. She fired her weapon to stop him from attacking her, police said. She remained on the scene until police arrived, authorities said.

  • The Koreas agree to end the war

    The Koreas agree to end the war

    The New York Times reports that the leaders of North and South Korea met for the first time on the shared frontier of their two countries hoping to end the sixty-eight years of tense showdowns.

    Their meeting was marked by some surprisingly candid moments but also sweeping pledges, with Mr. Kim saying, “I came here to put an end to the history of confrontation.”

    The event, at the Peace House, a conference building on the South Korean side of Panmunjom, was closely watched because it could set the tone for the even more critical summit meeting between President Trump and Mr. Kim, two leaders known for bold, if unpredictable, actions who only recently had the world fearing a nuclear war.

    President Trump is cautiously optimistic;

    Mr. Trump, early Friday in Washington, cautiously praised the Korean leaders’ meeting on Twitter: “Good things are happening, but only time will tell!”

    Fifteen minutes later, he declared in an all-caps tweet, “KOREAN WAR TO END!” and said that all Americans should be “very proud” of what was taking place on the Korean Peninsula.

    In another tweet, he thanked President Xi Jinping of China for his “great help” in the process.

    Me? I’d trust NDtBF as far as I could throw his portly ass. I can’t help but think that he’s going to take advantage of the situation and it will all crumble.
