One of our ninjas found this article about Andrew Gaboury, a history teacher at Coyle Cassidy High School in Taunton, Massachusetts. Gaboury claimed to school personnel and to students that he was a wounded war hero of the War Against Terror – an Intelligence Analyst with a Bronze Star Medal and two Purple Heart Medals – medals that he bought on the internet.
It was a big deal at the school and he was featured in the student newspaper in an article headlined “Gaboury goes from military to history classroom.”
“I’m so pleased to have a man like Mr. Gaboury to be on our staff. He had a lot of experiences and was well educated. He even served for our country’s military,” Principal Kathleen St. Laurent said in that article.
Yeah, well, someone tipped off the local news that he wasn’t telling the truth, so they asked the National Personnel Records Center about Gaboury;
Reporter Ted Daniel contacted the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration in St. Louis by phone and was told no record for him could be found.
A more thorough search was initiated, but while awaiting the results Gaboury came clean in an email.
“I made up time in the Army. Over the intervening years I added details as people asked. I am deeply sorrowful for this and did not see a way out,” he wrote.
Well, one way out would have been to keep that BS off of his application for employment, but he didn’t, so the school canned his lying ass.

When you check out many of these fakers FB accounts, they often claim to have graduated from a college or university. Since FB doesn’t require any proof (transcripts or diplomas) its easy as pie to add this lie as well. Usually they go Tier 1 schools since if you’re faking SEAL/Ranger/SF/Marine Sniper you might as well claim top academic credentials as well. I like seeing a guy claiming he’s a Mechanical Engineer from Ga. Tech while he works as assistant manager at Jiffy Lube.
I see a lot claiming degrees from schools that often don’t even offer the degree claimed by the poser. 🙂

The Native American law student club invited her, as the Native American faculty member, to speak to them every year, and she refused.
And I can believe one can infer from her declining to speak to the Native American law student club, that she knew she was not part Native American from the get-go and didn’t want to raise the level of awareness of her claim. If she actually thought she had a genetic Native American background, wouldn’t she have been proud to speak to the group?

Really, Andrew Gaboury, it is pretty low to be a phony hero to a bunch of high-school students, to lie to young men and women who trust you. Now, for the rest of your life, you have to look in the mirror and realize that you are a liar who deceived children. You, Andrew Gaboury, are a scumbag.
I’ve heard accounts from Teachers about their former Students coming up to them ad sayibg something like “Remember me? I’m … I had you for … class and loved learning from you…”. Andrew Gaboury won’t get that. From now on he’ll likely have his former Students who recognize him think, “There HE is.” and just walk right past him. Once home the conversation will be something like “Guess who I came across at the store today? I saw Andrew Gaboury sweeping the floors and stocking shelves, I remember when he got fired from teaching because he lied about serving in the Military”
Our favorite Son-in-law visited his students this week and was overwhelmed by the love these 1st-3rd graders showed him – including and especially a couple of his “brats” whom he knows have terrible home lives.
Andrew Gaboury, on the other hand, will be remembered for the next 60-70 years by his students as a liar, a fraud, and a failure. Rather than appreciation from his former students, Andrew Gaboury has set himself up to be a life-long object of disdain and mocking.
My wife has been teaching children of the children she taught. She teaches Kindergarten.
