Per the article: According to the Navajo Nation, Begaye served as a Code Talker from 1943 to 1945 and fought in the Battle of Tarawa and the Batter of Tinian. He spent a year in a naval hospital after being wounded.
Begaye later ran a general store in Chinle. – Military Times
May the road rise to meet him, the wind be always at his back, and may his horses be swift and the hunting plentiful.

Another piece of History gone to his rewards. After the surviving of the Pacific Battles, no wonder he would want the quiet life of running a General Store among his people and home.
Rest in well deserved Peace, Warrior!
Rest in peace Brother.
Amen…I have a poster of the wind talkers, got it at a VFW meeting and could the men to autograph it, but I only got 2, the rest were in the patio in the rear of the building and I didn’t know they were there and signing! so I missed out…I hate it, most are gone now! 🙁
Another Warrior joins his Comrades in Valhalla, Rest In Peace.
Rest in Peace.
Fair winds and following seas, Mr. Begaye.
