John Walker Lindh, the American caught fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan, is set to be released in May, 2019. As you guys may remember, John Lindh was captured in Afghanistan. He was fighting for the Taliban.

He was put on trial, convicted, and sentenced to serve some prison time. He maintained his radical views while in prison. He even argued that he would continue advocating Islamic extremism after his release.

The National Counterterrorism Center penned a document dated Jan. 24, 2017 claiming the former Taliban fighter remains as radicalized now as he was in 2001.

“As of May 2016, John Walker Lindh (USPER) — who is scheduled to be released in May 2019 after being convicted of supporting the Taliban – continued to advocate for global jihad and to write and translate violent extremist texts,” the Foreign Policy magazine reported.

The report added Walker Lindh told “a television news producer that he would continue to spread violent extremist Islam upon his release.”

He applied for Irish citizenship, and plans to go to Ireland after his release. His argument is that he needs to seek asylum, as his survival in the United States is questionable.

      1. Another reason why he wasn’t capped is because he was interviewed by the two CIA interrogators (Mike Spann was one of them) in the prison before the uprising and the Agency likely wanted to further interrogate him for intel purposes.

According to people in the SF community who were on site when he was finally captured for the second time, they would have let the Northern Alliance troops put an end to him like they did all other captured foreign fighters. However, once he was interviewed and taped by an effing reporter and identified as an American, the SF ODA commander decided they couldn’t allow him to be capped, as he so richly deserved, because it would subject them to quite a bit of grief from the powers that be. Also, the media stories that he was Taliban are bullshit perpetuated by the media. He was fighting with an Al Qaeda unit, as almost all foreign fighters served with Al Queda units, as they invariably only spoke Arabic other than their native languages. The Taliban mostly only spoke Pashto

    2. I would also add that he didn’t go to GITMO because he is a U.S. citizen. To my knowledge, they have never held anyone there who was only a citizen of ours.

      There’s no claim. At least one Democratic governor literally, on live radio, said that’s what would happen under a law he supported signing.

    Basically he states that his son is sweet, naive and innocent, but the mean old US Government has trumped up charges & is looking to hang his son’s azz.

  27. After Walker’s first capture and subsequent prison uprising … it was CPO(SEAL) Steve Bass who entered the prison looking for Mike Spann and Dave.

    Steve’s Navy Cross citation is fairly amazing … apparently if it moved Steve killed it.

    Steve was assigned to a British SAS or SBU at the time.
