Slow News Day

knife to a gun fight

It’s as if everyone is in a tryptophan torpor or some such today. In my search for articles to inform or amuse, I came across this. Not a true “Feel Good” story, but one worth telling. BLUF? Another case of poor victim selection skills.

A Washington mini-mart owner who has survived robberies in the past turned the tables on a would-be bandit last week.

Tan Ho, the owner of Spokane’s Hai’s Mini Mart, told KXLY he stays ready to defend himself, keeping both a handgun and a machete at close reach under the counter.

Ho, who told reporters he had previous experience scaring off an armed robber about a year ago, refused to be a victim when confronted last Tuesday at the shop when facing off with a man holding a knife and demanding money.

“I pulled out my gun — like this — and I pointed it right at him, and he ran,” said Ho. When prompted, he showed off his handgun, which looks to be an IWI Jericho 941 that he keeps in a leather thumb break holster attached to the counter.

Good trigger discipline and directional awareness. But if the thug wanted more trouble with Mr. Ho, there’s always the machete under the counter. The entire article may be viewed at Guns.com

  1. It may be a slow news day but a busy food service day and at our favorite restaurant the manager had to fire one of the cooks for sampling too much of the cooking wine then trying to put his dick in the tomato slicer.

I asked what did he do with the tomato slicer, he also fired her.
What can I say, its a slow news day.

    1. Not only a slow news day CM, but also a
      “slow comprehension” day……for me.

“…..then trying to put his dick in the tomato slicer……..he also fired her”.

Read your post three times before the light bulb went on. 🙁

        1. Dwight, age 21 or 21 stone weight? (grin)

Okay TAH’ers, here’s an interesting article I found.

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’ has been criticized as racist because they had the little black dude on one side of the table by himself on a ratty chair (which eventually broke).

          1. WTF ISN’T “racist” to today’s SJW crowd? You can’t even cut a fart near them without someone being “offended” and calling you “racist” for doing so!

            1. I have no idea if this is intentional or not, but you have to admit the optics aren’t the greatest.

              1. AW1Ed, I just did a little bit of research, and back in 1973 when Charlie Brown Thanksgiving was first shown, apparently at the table, the chairs keep moving in different shots. Franklin is shown sitting with other chairs and without.

So were some of those scenes deleted when it was shown this year?

Also, many viewers sent complaints to CBS about Woodstock eating a turkey with Snoopy, seeing it as an act of “bird cannibalism.” Charles Schulz insisted that Woodstock join Snoopy in carving and eating a turkey, despite Lee Mendelson’s (producer) protests.

So, now you know more of the story. (smile)

(Man I must be bored out of my gourd researching about Charlie Brown on a Saturday night) (sigh)

                1. Bird cannibalism? Are those viewers even vaguely aware that raptors like hawks and waders like herons routinely raid the nests of other birds and eat their offspring?

They aren’t? Yeah, and they think that bobcats are just short-tailed housecats, too.

                1. Loved how Snoopy is chewed out for not serving ‘Thanksgiving food’ like turkey, etc. and for serving popcorn. Funny since venison was on the menu, not turkey, and I read that popped corn WAS served. And leftover popcorn had milk poured over it and became the first modern type cereal in place of gruel or oatmeal type dishes.

    1. Yep, for the 1005-322-9715, as well as for assorted Village Idiots and Stolen Valor Thieves./smile

  2. News day may be slow now, but just wait for the post-1am alcohol-fueled hijinks.

    Twice, before Monday.

Plenty of time left for 1SG to say “they did -what-?!”

    1. PLENTY of time for someone to make themselves the reason for yet another Safety Briefing!

    1. That is because with the Marines, everything is done one + three. One to do it with two road guards and someone to count Cadence. Four + three = 16.
