Juan Bello, an 18-year-old in Illinois was arrested last week when he communicated a threat to a high school on social media, according to a Chicago Tribune article sent to us by EX-PH2. A juvenile accomplice was also arrested.
The Snapchat post warned students not to go to school because, “Mundelein ain’t ready for this.” The post also displayed a photo of a hand holding a handgun, according to a Saturday night statement by District 120.
By Sunday night, school officials announced that two Mundelein High School students had been taken into custody and charged with crimes.
Juan Bello, 18, of the 800 block of Walnut, was charged with disorderly conduct, a class 4 felony. The second student is a juvenile and has been referred to juvenile court, police said.
The charge carries a potential sentence ranging from probation to three years in prison, said Cynthia Vargas, spokeswoman for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office.
Vargas said Bello appeared in bond court Monday morning where his bail was set at $5,000, meaning he may be freed after posting a $500 bond.
Bello and his little juvenile friend claim that they never meant any harm, that they were only goofin’. But it’s amazing how far the law and the technology has come since the school shooting in Florida, isn’t it?

Here are some incidents in recent days from my AO:

Jesus, even a threat at my old highschool. If anyone is unfamiliar Muncy is about as close to Mayberry as they come. Williamsport on the other hand…
“… charged with disorderly conduct, a class 4 felony”
Oh, dear. If the poor lad is convicted he may lose the right to vote, and Illinois needs all the wise and experienced voters it can get.
It’s still a felony. And he’s not a juvenile, he’s 18. He should know better.
I guess brains still go out the window up to a certain age, maybe 40? now.
It’s Chicago. They’ll make damn sure he votes for democrats either way.
He’s eligible to vote, even if he’s 6 feet under. That’s the Chicago way.
Not to defend the running stupidity and corruption of my native city, but to be precise, Mundelein isn’t even a suburb of Chicago.
Last month:
Southern Maryland News
This isn’t the first time this has happened in the collar counties, but the local pohlease people tend to take such threats seriously, even if they were meant as a prank.
Pranks are supposed to be ‘hah-hah’ funny. But it wasn’t. None of them are when they are this kind of thing.
This is the consequence.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Bubba & Thor will get a good price for his little ass!
There was a rash of bomb threats at mine and other local high schools back in the 60’s.
After getting fed up with them the schools announced they would ignore them. The calls stopped immediately.
Many baby mammas just need to abort. Another lifelong burden on the taxpayers.
DREAMER
Wouldn’t be surprised.
Read an excellent article the other day by Daniel Greenfield about how the media hype on sensational murders, like these school shootings, invariably leads to many copy-cat incidents. One example was the New Yawk News story and page one photo of a person pushed in front of a subway train and a rash of subsequent subway train murders and suicides. Apparently, the mechanism or implement of death is less important than the malevolent idea of it. Thus, by the media sensationalizing these bad ideas, we get more of them put into action.
There’s nothing new under the sun. When we were kids, we read and heard about all sorts of nasty stuff. The difference is that we knew right from wring and chose not to emulate the wrong we read and heard about.
18 sucks. For those not in military service at that age, that magic line between 17 and 18 is a bitch. The world looks the same to them at 18 as it did at 17. Yeah, welcome to jail and adult court, sonny boy.
No doubt Nancy and Chuck’s chosen few
They would be heralded as heroes here in putrid Portland
Legions would rush to their defense………….some horrid misunderstanding.
All the talk about video games and such, is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Many of us here, can clearly remember the mind numbing fascination with all things cowboy and WWII on TV and the movies.
So deep were we into the lore of guns and dead guys of the silver screen, that we implored our parents to outfit us in the latest and greatest “Fanner Five” cowboy rig, or the Mattel line of combat gadgetry pouring from the toy store and into our back yards. Who didn’t nearly shoot their brother’s eye out with a homemade bow and arrow…anyone….just me? Pretty sure Mattel had that dorky M16, with genuine rat-a-tat-tat trigger, on the market before Colt had the actual weapon in the hands of the Army (just ask Green Beret John Wayne).
We weren’t ensconced in our basements with the video game hypnotizing us, but actually out in the neighborhood, fighting D-Day all over and over and over again. Screaming about Japs and Nazis invading the corner sandlot, while the local police simply grinned and ignored us as they drove by.
Were we any less violent than gamers? Did we see any less war horror that caused us to ignore reality? No, we didn’t. But we did have parents that would whup our butts when we screwed up. We had coaches that made sure we put out total effort to win, and hold that trophy high. We had schools that reported almost every pony tail pull, or pantsing of the little kids to our parents….who would proceed to administer the aforementioned butt whupping.
It’s not the tool used. But the human using it.
Some of this IS kids goofing around. What they don’t get is that, under the atmosphere we’re living in at present, there is no such thing as “prank bomb threats”. You make a threat on your Facebook page, or your Twitter account, or your iPhone blue book semi-speech activated quill pen and someone with a badge is going to be knocking on your door. And this time, mommy and daddy aren’t going to be able to yell at them like they do at the teacher and get you out of trouble.
They need to impose some SERIOUS jail time on all these little pukes who think they’re so cute, and who also know they’ll more than likely get away with it.
And it would just be so nice if someone opened a can of whoopass on their ignorant parents.
Another bedwetting, South of the Bieber looking copycat snowflake puke
