The Navy Secretary, Ray Mabus, has made it his life’s purpose to piss off as many veterans as he can by passing over the names of real heroes for the Navy’s newest vessels for less likely social justice warriors instead. The Associated Press asked him about that;

“I have named ships after presidents. I have named ships after members of Congress who have been forceful advocates for the Navy and Marine Corps,” Mabus said in a recent interview. “But I think you have to represent all the values that we hold as Americans, that we hold as a country. And so that’s why I’ve named ships the Medgar Evers, Cesar Chavez, John Lewis, the Harvey Milk. Because these are American heroes too, just in a different arena.”

Medgar Evers served in the Army, Cesar Chavez said that his time in the Navy was “the worst two years of my life”, John Lewis and Gabby Giffords never spent a day in any service.

“He has made some, what people would consider exceptions to the rules, because in his view it was the right thing to do to reach out to different communities in the country,” said David Winkler, of the Naval Historical Foundation.

Because “community out reach” is more important than honoring actual service.

    1. I joined the Navy at the tail end of the Cold War, and saw the social experimentation changes get implemented at the expense of good old school leadership and military way of doing things.

      Those who came in after me are either at the top of the enlisted ranks, or on their way there. Officers that came in after me are anywhere from the equivalent of senior majors to colonel equivalent. They’re making their way to the flag ranks.

      Their “military culture” and “military mindset” is different from what many of us have. They came in starting in the mid 1990s and were exposed to the “touchy feely don’t hurt their feelings” philosophy. They’re essentially the first military generation that bought into the very mindset that Ray Mabus is expressing.

      I’m afraid that the madness isn’t going to end, but get worse. Unfortunately, that shit is bleeding into the Army ranks. I’ve experienced round two of the “You’re creating a hostile working environment” in response to my applying old school military leadership/infantry style leadership.

      2. Okay, that ‘creating a hostile working environment’ notion is going to get people killed.

        I find it difficult to understand how anyone expects a military force to be successful at defense when it’s told/trained/taught to surrender on demand. How is that going to keep people safe?

        I know: it isn’t. But I live in the real world, like the rest of you, and I have no intention of surrendering to slaughter without a fight.

      1. Does anyone else actually remember that? I sure do… the headlines screamed that the mayor of SanFran, Moscone (sp?) was assassinated in City Hall…. and at the end of the articles ‘a supervisor, Harvey Milk, was also killed in the attack.’ All the hooraw over that is pure revisionism.

    Everything this fucking idiot touches turns to shit, that says more about his boss than it does about him. Mabus is just being Mabus, he can’t help himself or stop himself from being a total asshole it’s what he is, but his boss has always had the power to put an end to this asshole’s time on the government teat.

    Lazy and entitled seems to be the new standard for success under this administration.

  11. Gabby Giffords was a great representative for her district (where I live) even though she was on the other side of the aisle. She had my respect even when I didn’t agree with her stand. Doesn’t mean I want a ship named after her. And Mark Kelly? Eat a dick.

    Rep Lewis at least was a force in The Civil Rights Movement but since has drifted far left and wants to take our 2cd Amendment Rights away

    Milk won one election over dog poop, loved teenage boys, in fact living with a 16yr old, lied to get what he wanted, was quite the admirer of Jim Jones of Kool Aid Fame and was not killed for being gay but in a dispute over a seat on the city council.

    Giffords of course never served and has lately been trying to deprive us of our 2cd Amendment rights. If she had any intellectual honesty or decency she would decline the honor.

    M. Evers served honorably in The Army in WW2. Why is the Navy naming a ship after an Army Vet? At least he was honorably discharged after fighting in Europe

You gotta feel bad for the plank owners of some of these boats. How do you take pride in being a plank owner for the John Murtha?
