Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal

Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal

The Pentagon announces it’s latest bit of ribbon, the Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal for folks who have served in this, our third war in Iraq;

The award is retroactive to June 15, 2014, and is for service members based in Iraq or Syria, those who flew missions over those countries, and those who served in contiguous waters for 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days, officials said.

The award distinctly recognizes service members battling terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria. Service members who were killed or were medically evacuated from those countries due to wounds or injuries immediately qualify for the award, as do members who engaged in combat.

Previously, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal recognized service in Iraq and Syria, and service members in neighboring countries such as Turkey will continue to receive that award.

[…]

The award is separate from the Iraq Campaign Medal awarded for service during operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn, officials said.

    1. ‘Poser claims this award in 3…….2………1…….’
I want one, I want one.

      Bwhaaaaaaaa

    Pull out abruptly
And then go back to war again
    Seriously WTF !!!!!

    🙂

  2. Now we know who is pulling the strings and why Obama had to quickly leave Iraq just to re-enter. Big Awards industry as a means to further their product line with another medal. Damn you Big Award industry!

  3. That’s one ugly ass medal. That scorpion looks like something off a fucking 7.62 Design shirt. I’m gonna go out on a limb here, but military medals shouldn’t look like some wannabe badass T-shirt Joe buys at the PX.

  4. Does the orange stripe represent the skid mark left in the porta-john after eating the local cuisine?

    1. Looks like it to me. The tan represents the “unstained” walls of the porta-john with the giant streak down the middle for the sake of authenticity.

I’ll make sure to share that one when I’m downrange again.

  5. Not sure how I feel about this. What was wrong with just continuing to use the GWOT-EM, especially in light of the fact that our operations against ISIL are being conducted under the same 9/11 AUMF.

      1. Likely. This from the same administration that didn’t issue a medal for Libya (Odyssey Dawn/Unified Protector and whatever the names are today).

BTW, to my knowledge Syria is still not part of the combat zone.

    1. I’m thinking some senior military members needed to even out their rack. It’s all about symmetry, don’t you know?

  6. I’ve been through seven different types of fatigues.

    My rack costs 70ish bucks.

We’re getting as bad as the Air Force. “Look! Shiny and New and Improved!”

Everytime someone comes up with a “new” idea in the Army, a kitten dies and an O-6 gets promoted because of their “NEW” OER Bullet.

    1. More like the Pamered,Perfumed, Powdered and Preened Princes in charge responding to current SITREPs with “HEY LOOK, a shiny new medal!” like all of us have turbocharged ADHD.

  7. And what was the end date of the Gulf War–the one that officially began in August 1990? The last I heard the DOD hadn’t given it an end date.

        1. As the combat zone was never closed, you could argue that there was no end date.

    1. Southwest Asia Service Medal must have participated in or supported military operations in Soutwest Asia between August 2, 1990 and November 30, 1995.

  8. Well, let’s see…This one is for Single-handedly defeated the Retiree People of the Assisted Living Nebula.

This one is for Annihilating the Pacifists of the Gandhi Nebula.

And this one right here is for the triumphant carpet bombing of Eden 7.

    😀

    1. Kif, have the boy lay out my formal shorts.
      The boy, sir?
You Kif, you lay out my formal shorts.

      1. Zapp Branigan – my hero!

“When I’m in command, EVERY mission is a suicide mission!”

“What makes a good man go neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?”

“I am the man with no name… Zapp Brannigan.”

        😀

“If we can hit that bull’s-eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards…Checkmate.”

  9. Technically, it is a separate campaign from Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn so this makes sense.

The question is what order of precedence is it worn? Right now, the Operation Enduring Freedom/Freedom Sentinel campaign medal comes before the Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn campaign medal.
