Tom Banghart; Marine combat pretender

Thomas Banghart (2)

Someone sends us their research on this guy, Tom Banghart, and as you can tell from the picture above, he loves to wear ribbons. In the picture, i found most of the medals and ribbons he’s wearing;

Navy & Marine Corps Medal (think Soldiers Medal)
Defense Meritorious Service Medal
Meritorious Service Medal
Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal
Combat Action Ribbon
Navy and Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation
Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation
Navy Good Conduct Medal
Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon

Well, he did go to Vietnam in February 1970 and he was assigned to a Headquarters and Supply Company in a Supply Battalion.It looks like he returned unscathed in January 1971. He continued serving in the active force until 1975 and then did another 12 years in the Reserves, finally ending his service as a Staff Sergeant. His awards according to the National Personnel Records Center were;

Thomas Banghart Awards

Yeah, so he didn’t earn all of those pretty little bits of ribbon. No Navy & Marine Corps Medal for heroism not in combat, no Combat Action Ribbon because an H&S Company of a Supply Battalion doesn’t get to go into combat that often. But then it’s easier to pin on the ribbon than it to actually be in a combat action.

  1. I left the Corp in 1978 and I don’t think the regulation changed. But, he certainly has the pistol and rifle qualification badges reversed.

  2. Damn. Looks like yet another example of someone p!ssing all over perfectly honorable wartime service by claiming to have been awarded stuff they never actually received.

    Sad. Just freaking sad.

  3. Pick one, Tommy. The first is the more popular but do consider the second.

    1) He is wearing them all in memory and in honor of those who earned them but cannot wear them….

    2) He is not wearing them as a claim that he earned them, but is wearing them as a walking, talking living history museum….

    1. I opt for “(3) He’s a LSoS who thought no one would notice his little deception and he’d get away with it.” But maybe I’m wrong.

    2. I’d go with #2…the “Visconti Defense”. Dude was probably a door gunner on a Slick, ’cause back then they needed door gunners…

      Fucking assclown

  4. H&S Company; We don’t call the Hide & Slide for nothing.

Full Disclosure; Hack Stone was assigned to H&S Company at 3rd Amphibious Assault Vehicle Battalion and 1st Tracked Vehicle Battalion.

  5. Another “Look at Me” Dude from Florida who seems to be ashamed to be Supply. Wonder if he has a Ponytail and a Biker Vest.

    1. Got any pictures of her? If she’s ugly I’ll just turn the light off, but I’m curious to see what she looks like in daylight.

  6. I was in H&S CO, 1st Supply BN, 1st FSSG during peace time, so that means I should at least be eligible for THREE Combat Action Ribbons, right?

    1. Well, then, where the hell are my radio parts? I have a radio sitting on the shelf short parts for the past 30 years.

  7. Just WTF makes these creampuff clowns want to put ribbons and medals on BDU or DCU Uniforms when they go parading around in their “HEY, LOOK AT ME!” games? That makes me really want to slap the next turd I see parading around like that!

    1. Yes I don’t get that shit. My DCU’s and BDU’s and my NWU II and III are long gone. I would not wear them any more as I am retired and off duty key word off duty so do not believe it would be ok to wear them. I do wear my Gore-Tex from time to time when weather is bad.

      1. Yep, with you on that one. I once made the mistake of wearing an old 60’s era field jacket to an event and immediately regretted it. There was a VA “counselor” who shadowed me, insisting that they could help me with my issues! Evidently responding that I was fine after several inquiries didn’t fit with his agenda. All I wanted to do was sit quietly under a tree to listen to the speakers. VA nut wouldn’t let that happen.

  8. That’s a Marine GCM with a star, not Navy. And he’s sporting a Navy-Marine Corps Prez. Unit Citation! That’s one badass H&S Company.

      1. That’s a Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal…the pattern is the same as the NEM but the colors are different, i.e. Scarlet and gold vs blue and yellow.

  9. Those who need to “Educate” the public and wear stuff which causes strangers to inquire about history, so be it if that’s what you think is necessary. But for the asshole who wears a salad bowl out in the public, even once a year, those of us who have earned what we do not wear say “Forkyoufoney” Fortunately I have yet to run across one of those retards. As a result, my short fuse has not yet found me a stay in the Crossbar Hilton. Ending up an E-6 after all those years, he must have been another Hellofaman.

    1. I hereby dedicate this song to this phony mutherforker. You Forking earned it Bub! My gut tells me you and this singer have a LOT in common. Recapped lips for one!

        1. Being the old fart that I am (like you Jarhead) I’m more preferential to hearing The Platters do The Great Pretender.

          Ah, Doo-Wop forever.

          Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong.

          1. Yep, we’re part of the old farts club Claw. Trying to reach the younger bucks is probably hopeless. Even this light- in-the loafers singing is probably old hat to most of them.
Wap Bop A Do Bop back to you. What ever happened to Baby Jane?

  10. What the hell? No Aviator Wings? No Scuba Bubble? No Silver Star or multiple Purple Hearts? This guy has a ways to go.

  11. Wait, this guy actually WAS a staff sergeant and he couldn’t get his shooting badges straight? Are you kidding me? I was just a little old corporal who was only in for 5 years, never even had a pistol badge, and even my pogue ass knows that the rifle badge goes first. That’s just pathetic – you’d think a faker who really was an SNCO could at least be convincing.

  12. Someone let this boot know that the EGA goes inboard towards the heart. Since his is facing towards his ass it’s fitting.
