A few weeks ago, Mikey Weinstein and his Military Religious Freedom Foundation complained about a sign on Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe which proclaimed “God Bless the Military” which is somehow offensive to the godless. MustangCryppie sends us a link to Military.com which reports that the commander of the base, Colonel Sean C. Killeen replied to the group that they should look for something else to complain about;
“This sign will remain in its present location and not be altered in any way,” Killeen said in the letter. He explained that “God bless” is commonly used in Western culture and that there are numerous references to God in the country’s symbols, songs, mottos and oaths. “This sign has the secular purpose of conveying a message of support, does not advance or inhibit religion or any particular faith, nor does it foster excessive government entanglement with religion.”
He added that the sign was erected after Sept. 11, 2001, to support service members who were deploying in response to the attacks and has served as “a secular symbol of general support and encouragement” for more than a decade.
The MFers suggested some changes to the sign to make it more palatable to heathens;
Some suggestions offered were: “Yahweh Bless …,” “Allah Bless …,” “Goddess Bless …,” and “There is no god to bless … We have each other.”
It’s very revealing that they would suggest “Allah bless”, isn’t it?
Not being a particularly religious person myself, I don’t feel at all threatened by people who are religious. I guess that I’m actually the embodiment of “free exercise of religion”. A sign doesn’t shake me to my soul.

Very telling indeed that they gave other names to replace “God”, that were other names for God. They expose their own bias constantly, but we are told that it is not a war on Christianity.
I’m sure they want all of those names and “The Flying Spaghetti Monster” up there all in the name of what they call “tolerance”.
Do not blaspheme the FSM, may you be touched by His noodly appendages.
May Cthulu be with you too! 😀
Nah, they actually don’t want any of those names up there – they put them there to ‘shock’ the predominantly Christian population, hoping that shock leads them to see things from a different angle. They didn’t choose ‘Allah’ because they support Islam, they chose Allah because it’ll make people say, “Fuck that!”. Which is how they feel about all the names.
I’m not religious but I don’t get up in arms over things like this – if the signs were omnipresent, beating ‘God’ or a specific religion down my throat, that’d be one thing. But a sign that conveys someone’s honest feelings of goodwill towards the military? Not a problem.
Hmmmmm…..let me see if I can’t help out here a little bit.

Ha!
Well done! I’m sure that what all the Marines are thinking.
Chip, a classic!
Great one, Chip. Downloaded it and will upload it to Facebook to share with the “Special People” over there.
Dear Snowflakes,
Fuck off.
Love and kisses,
Everyone Else.
Dear thin-skinned perpetually offended snot-nosed candyassed patchouli-heads,
EAT SHIT AND BAWL AT THE MOON while you GFY and KISS MY ASS!!
Liberals ALWAYS bawl and screech for “tolerance and acceptance” until the moment they see anything related to Christianity and then it’s supposed to be banished from existence because they’re “offended”. HEY BITCHES, go to some Muslim-dominated locale and bawl about crescents painted everywhere if you’re so offended by religion, I dare you!! GFY sideways with a broken broomstick wrapped in asbestos while you continue to bawl.
Why is it that everything and everybody I’m supposed to tolerate is offended by me?
Cuz we are raising a generation of weak minded fuckwads who think participation should be rewarded with a trophy even when they suck because they’ve been trained to believe in non-competition…no dodgeball, no tag, no gun shaped pop-tarts…helmets and protective gear to ride a bicycle…lest their tender self-esteem be damaged by a red rubber ball rebounding off their pointy little heads…
There’s no way those kids are growing up into well rounded individuals who have a thick skin to survive in an uncaring world.
Is it just me, or how can anyone take seriously anybody named “Mikey”, unless the topic is cereal?
The perpetually aggrieved done spoke again! And they continue to sound childish and (to use their terminology) meanspirited. So there!
I think it’s been pretty obvious where I come down on the religion debate…
I can’t speak for all the other tender snowflakes who are non-believers, but I don’t care one way or another about a sign on a base….as long as nobody expects me to pray with them or agree with their magical fairy tales it’s all good.
I see some pretty stupid and obnoxious atheists…I prefer the term non-believer because I don’t subscribe to the who atheism religion…keep your signs, keep your crosses in a public cemetery to comfort those who’ve experienced the loss of a loved one.
None of that hurts any non-believer.
I’m against the idea of that fairy tale intruding into the law of the land in odd places like health insurance and public accommodation but that’s a point of discussion for another time and place.
Get out of my head, yo!
Sorry darlin, I do what I can!
>I don’t subscribe to the who atheism religion
a·the·ism
noun
disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.
But Atheism is just that.. and non-belief, so there most certainly is no Atheist religion. Atheist is a good word. It means someone who personally denies a deity. Anyone else would be an Agnostic, from a technical standpoint – even if an Agnostic is not a believe either.
Thrust me that Atheists does not want any fairly tales added.
So, let’s see here…Richard Dawkins putting ads on buses in the United Kingdom saying “there’s probably no god” is within bounds, but a sign referencing the Almighty needs to be removed?
Tolerance works both ways. The only tolerance you deserve for yourself is what you give to others.
Dawkins isn’t alone, people like me do it too. I also help fund billboards, sponsor Scholarships, secular disaster relief efforts, and help fund a secular effort to provide fresh drinking water to children worldwide.
They should not have had to move the sign. It has no business being there in the first place. They were asked to move it in front of the Chapel where it belongs.
Col. Dipshit making a statement that it brings a Secular message to all is nonsense. That is like saying, Allahu Akbar is a secular message.
Purchasing an advertising space to display a message has nothing to do with putting up a religious sign where is does not belong.
Holy Christ, move the sign to the Chapel and be done with it.
Whinestine (or is it pronounced steen?) has a good gig. According to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, Inc’s tax filing for 2013, the outfit had ONE employee. That’s ONE, as in ONE. UNO. And the figure for “Salaries, other compensation, employee benefits” ….$311,166.
A tidy profit for being a thin-skinned bawling candyass, ain’t it? I wonder who his chief enablers (*OOPS*, donors) are?
The 990 filed with the IRS says $299,634. Very interesting, I do not “believe” most people who support him realize that.
Which year, Dave?
2013, You have to go to Schedule J, Page 2 of that form. That is the total ‘Compensation’ claimed.
Good work, what is disturbing to me is roughly 40% of all revenue goes to his compensation.
The first defense of him doing this will be the outrageous salaries religious organizations pay their ‘leaders’.
Got it. I never begrudge a person what he earns EXCEPT when it comes to nonprofits. And that includes pastors of megachurches who rake in the cash. And it most certainly includes the Whinestines (or is it pronounced steens?)
I wonder whether Whinestine (or is it pronounced steen?) ever has argued for religious institutions to lose their tax-exempt status.
Yes, he has. So have many of his supporters. Right or wrong, this seems to be a case of Atheist hypocrisy. My feeling is it will continue to get worse until they are confronted about it.
Don’t forget, a lot of those religious and non-profit big shots have to pay someone to handle their organ. Just saying
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Whinestain pays somebody to handle his tool as well. Whiny little bitches tend to have that problem.
Dave: His defense is that he wears a lot of hats and works 15-hour days. Even some of his supporters haven’t taken kindly to him sitting on the MRFF board and voting on his own pay. See here: http://nonprofitquarterly.org/2014/07/03/mikey-likes-it-ceo-faces-questions-about-big-compensation-in-small-nonprofit/
Thanks for the link. I posted there and other places as well. As an Atheist I do not agree with everything the organization does but generally supported most of their efforts.
This shit stain using his veteran status to profit excessively in my opinion needs to be stopped.
Of course, in furtherance of the nonprofit (Ha!) of which he is CCO, it would be customary for Whinestine (or is it pronounced steen?) to have a vehicle, maybe two, assorted expenses, and Lord knows what else. Just keep those donations coming please!
Correction regarding Whinestine (or is it pronounced steen?):That should have been COO (chief operating officer) not CCO.
I think they make an excellent point. Henceforth, when I smash my thumb with a large hammer, I will say I Allah Dammit! Also I am considering changing my name to ADContractor.
Reminds me of a “South Park” episode, concerning the holy war that will one day be fought between the United Atheist Alliance and the Union of Allied Atheists. While Cartman yells, “Sciencedammit!”
I bet this incident just killed this guy’s career. I fully expect to see him retiring soon or being removed from command.
Sure is funny how a bunch of *special snowflakes* get their panties all knotted up over something they don’t believe in…haha!
Reminds me of a meme I saw on Facebook not too long ago … something along the lines of atheists not hating fairies, leprechauns, unicorns, and the like, since they don’t exist. They hate God because He does exist. Or something like that.
