We talked about Christopher Bailey back in April when he pleaded guilty to falsifying government documents to make up a fake Marine Corps career which included earning a Purple Heart, a Silver Star Medal and a Combat Action Ribbon in order to defraud banks of more than $1.6 million in New Hampshire. He faced 30 years in prison and a year on the stolen valor charges. He got 33 months according to WCVB.
Prosecutors said Bailey applied for loans based on the false pretense he managed a 100-acre farm and planned to use loan funds for agricultural assets.
The Rollinsford man scammed at least 10 banks out of more than $1.6 million over a nearly five-year period.
U.S. Assistant Attorney Bill Morse says he counterfeited military records to show he served in Iraq and Afghanistan to gain sympathy from loan officers.
Nice. I’m sure that sentence will inspire people to avoid prison, but only if they think that living real well on a million bucks for five years is worth living less than three years in prison.
