SEALs die in training accident

SEALs

The sad news that a second SEAL has passed from his injuries in a training accident at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia. 34-year-old Special Warfare Operators 1st Class Brett Allen Marihugh and Seth Cody Lewis were found at the bottom of their Combat Swimmer Training Facility. Lewis died Friday and Marihugh passed yesterday.

Because of their deaths, the Combat Swimmer Training Facility has been shut down pending a policy review.

The Navy said the investigation into the incident may take months, possibly longer, to determine exactly what happened.

Training for war can be as deadly as the war itself.

  1. I’m trying to come up with some logical explanation for two SEALs to drown in a swimming pool. Honestly, I can’t come up with one.

    1. Shallow water blackout is a possibility. I knew a tender diver that happened to when I was stationed in Guam.

Guys will hyperventilate before doing a breath hold dive. It’s effective for longer/deeper snorkeling dives, but it’s risky in that there’s a greater chance of passing out without warning while under water.

  2. God bless them both. May the Angels of His Mercy bring solace to their families and friends.

Whatever the hell happened, it must have been pretty bad for two men with their skills to not be able to escape it.

  3. Damn. Yet another reminder of precisely how dangerous the profession of arms is.

May the dead rest now in peace, and may God comfort their surviving friends and family.

  4. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all. Much respect and peace to those that loved them. Semper Fi.

  5. For me, it always seems worse when this happens. In war, one expects casualties, but when it happens practicing war … it just doesn’t seem right.

May the Good Lord give of His comfort to their families and comrades.

    1. Nicely said OS54, that training takes some of our brethren from is should serve as a reminder to all just what is we do in the military. We train to take the fight to those who would harm our countrymen, it’s a dangerous profession but an honorable one. There are two quotes i am reminded of this morning…

#1 Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior.

#2 Let us form one body, one heart, and defend to the last warrior our country, our homes, our liberty…

      Rest In Peace honored brethren.

  6. It is not a swimming pool. It is an large aqua training facility. Long, wide and deep.

    RIP NSW Operators.

  7. RiP gentlemen, may your families somehow find solace and comfort in the wake of your passing.
