Two More Afghans Vote With Their Feet

Well, it looks as if a couple of other Afghan officials training in the USA have voted with their feet. Two others have now been reported to have walked away from training and disappeared.

The two were attending prison-reform training in Colorado, apparently conducted by the Colorado Department of Corrections. One of the individuals disappeared in September 2013; the other, in February.

One of the two individuals was later apprehended while attempting to cross into Canada. It’s unclear which of the two – the one who disappeared in September, or the one who disappeared in February – was apprehended.

Identities of the two individuals have not been released due to concern for the safety of their families’ remaining in Afghanistan. The individual at large is not thought to pose a threat.

I guess these guys decided they really don’t want to see how things work out in their homeland after we leave. Why? My guess is because they want to stay alive.

I suppose I can’t blame them for that.

  1. My question. As much training as we have given in Afghanistan, why do we need to bring them here at all? I mean prison-reform training? Really! That’s an important issue in Afghanistan?

    1. My question. As much blue-on-blue attacks as we have in Afghanistan, why do we need to bring them here at all? Really! That’s an important issue to me.

    2. Exactly! There is simply no excuse for it.

But there have been foreign nationals receiving training on active military bases CONUS for a very long time. Most of it seems quite unnecessary. And stupid.

      1. I can remember (when I was knee high to a grasshopper) meeting members of the German Army (or maybe German Air Force … it’s been a long, long time) at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, who were there for training on the Pershing Missile system.

I do understand having officer exchange programs and allowing allies to send their people to some of our schools. However, considering how many blue-on-blue attacks that have been committed by supposedly vetted Afghan soldiers and police officers I consider this to be one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard of.

          1. Yeah, the Luftwaffe has a detachment at Ft. Bliss as well. They are out there training on ADA systems and they have a large enough presence that they have their own schools and chapels so apparently it is an accompanied tour.

            1. Back in the day they even had their own bar in Juarez. It used to be called the White Rock, but I don’t know what they named it after they painted the exterior with the German flag colors (yellow, red, black).

  2. Wait,What? Why would they want to go to Canada? Aren’t Prong Horn Antelopes just considered the big sisters to goats? And there are some big ones in the area between Trinidad and LaJunta.

      1. The Pronghorn I mean, not the Afghanis.

Just to clarify, before someone tries accuse me of eating Afghanis.

        1. I heard they’re greasy, stringy, bitter and don’t have much meat on them.

Just to clarify, before someone tries accuse me of defaming Prong Horn Antelopes, I was speaking about Afghanis…allegedly, so I’ve heard.

          1. True, but have you tried them as biscuits? If you go to the link below, you will see that an ingredient is missing. I copied the recipe but added the missing ingredient.

            AFGHAN BISCUITS

        2. Gravel,I was thinking more along the lines of a Wyoming Saturday night date. You know, the kind of date that involves a fifth of whiskey,a pair of irrigation boots and a gal who ain’t half baaaaaaad looking.

        3. I WOULDN’T EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING TO, just think about how much work there would be in cleaning the damn thing!!

      2. “What do we do?”
“Shoot the prisoners, eat the dogs, and drink the wine!”
        “Eat the dogs?!”
“A dog makes a fine meal”

OK, can anyone guess the movie?

        1. Close:

“I Say we drink the wine, eat the dogs and use the paper for musket wadding.”

And rene auberjonois plays the priest, made popular in deep space nine.

A favorite scene for me too.

        2. What do we do?

          I thought the response was:

“Kill the men, rape the women, and steal the cattle!

….. and get it in the right order this time!!!”

  3. The problem I see in bringing Afghan personnel here is that they’ll see how the other half lives, so to speak. Or see that the poorest Americans are in the 1% back in Afghanistan.

Wasn’t there an old song… “How ya’ gonna keep ’em down on the farm, after they’ve seen Paree?

    1. And most any and every afghan “leader”, gummint worker, and translator that i met in Afghanistan wanted to come to the land of the big px.

I don’t blame them for wanting to roll to Canada either. I’m sure Canada will also let them stay because they are nice.

  4. Much is made about the green on blue in that AO.

But, we tend to forget that there’s also a lot of people in that AO that have stepped up and helped us to the best of their ability.

And now, that all our promises are proved to be lies, again… And now that it’s so blatantly obvious that we’re abandoning those people that put their lives on the line to help us, again…

And, it’s a done deal that all of those people are going to be rounded up and slaughtered for helping us, again…

Those that can are doing a runner.

    Only an idiot wouldn’t.
