Richard Rahn; extra S#!tbag

Richard Rahn1

I know you remember Richard Rahn in the photo above. We featured him a few weeks ago when someone sent us that photo. He had his Ranger Tab sewn onto his shoulder and that was enough to tell us that he wasn’t what he said he was. Well, the Army Times dug into his story among civilians in Minnesota and the story is horrifying. He ingratiated himself into the company of a Gold Star family with his wild tales of losing 90 soldiers in his unit;

[American Legion Post 167 in Willma] welcomed him, and Rahn arrived at the ceremony in uniform — Seydel, a former airman, said he didn’t recall any uniform details — and stood at attention during the speeches. He attended a post-event barbecue. He spoke with guests.

“He was nothing but polite — knew the protocol, everything,” Seydel said.

That same weekend, Rahn paid a more private visit. While Greg and Kim Schmit were attending a memorial event in Washington, D.C., Kim’s sister and mother were representing the family at a ceremony in the Minnesota cemetery where Joshua rests.

“My sister said this totally-in-uniform soldier came walking up and stated that he comes to our son’s grave often … and that he had left a small statue, and wanted to know if we had gotten it,” Kim Schmit said. “My mom had said that he was so sincere up until he started pointing to his ribbons and almost like patting himself on the back, the type of speeches he was giving, and my mom and sister looked at each other and thought, ‘Something’s not right here.’ ”

Dude was a felon with two handguns in his home – not the kind of person anyone would want around their family. He pleaded not guilty to the weapons charges in court the other day, but, clearly there are other issues here – the most glaring being that most of these stolen valor guys have other issues besides their propensity for wearing stuff they didn’t earn.

But you should really click over and read the whole disturbing thing at Army Times. Muchas gracias to the folks at the Army Times for the link to us, tambien.

  1. The fact hat I actually saw and exchanged words with this shithead at Ft. Snelling really pisses me off. I wasn’t close enough to him to see his bling very well. I could tell he had a lot of it, but that’s it.

I would love to meet up with him, again, for just a few minutes.

    1. I used to live at the Vets Home in Hastings. We had a program where we worked during the summer helping to take care of the grounds at that cemetery.
It makes me sick to think of that bastard setting foot on that sacred ground my hands helped to keep clean.

  2. I read the Army Times story. The last paragraph tells you all you need to know about what kind of human being this guy is.

I hope his shame consumes him.

    1. Lowlifes like Richard Rahn have no shame, and never even look past the tip of their noses when thinking about the consequences of their actions. I’m absolutely certain he’ll go right back to his con games and shitbaggery once he gets out of jail, slimy characters like that are only concerned about what they want “RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW” without a thought of anything or anyone else!

  3. To be fair, the toothpick does not automatically equal poser. During my last tour in Okinawa, the 7th Comm Bn SgtMaj always had a toothpick in his mouth. We had a 7th Comm Bn Staff NCO and Officer unit photo scheduled. So, the night before, GySgt Hack Stone went down to the commissary and purchased a few boxes of toothpicks. We all line up on the bleachers behind the CO and SgtMaj, which was my opportunity to distribute the toothpicks. Laughter ensued, the SgtMaj saw the toothpicks, and said to leave them in our mouths. And that is why toothpicks are in that unit photograph.

    1. EX-PH2,
From what I gather he is in the slammer until at least anoter hearing, which will be in January.
Those weapons charges can get him some more time, hopefully even more will be tacked on for being a shitbag.

      1. He is probably on a state and federal HOLD as well. Meaning they are considering charges with arrest.

  4. Fraud, fakes and posers, we’re all use to here. But an ass hole who insinuates himself into a grieving family’s life…a bridge too far in my book. I hope he gets hard time on the weapons charge and I DO HOPE they can prove he profited in some way from his stolen valor and fight to make that stick.

God bless the Schmit family and may Joshua Rest In Peace.

  5. I am sorry this piece of shit lives in my original home state. I wish there was some kind of payback that will bite him worse than ever for his wrongs against our people.

    1. Salute? Well, OK. Of the one-finger variety.

Look in again tomorrow. Jonn should have a copy of NPRC’s reply to a FOIA on this tool sometime tomorrow AM.

  6. A felon in possession of a firearm conviction could earn him 10 years in prison. At least that could give him some time to think about what he did.
