Wassef Ali Hassoun charged

The Stars & Stripes reports that Marine Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun, who walked off from his duties as an interpreter in Iraq and surfaced later with some of his Lebanese family, then once again walked off when his behavior was being investigated, was charged the other day with desertion;

The 34-year-old has deserted twice, officials say — the first time in Fallujah and again in 2005 when he was scheduled to appear in court on desertion charges. Hassoun turned himself in to authorities this summer and was transferred to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to face court-martial.

A week after Hassoun disappeared from Fallujah, he appeared in a hostage video. A group identifying itself as Islamic Response claimed to be holding him and threatened to behead him unless detainees in U.S. custody in Iraq were released.

A month later Hassoun was found in Lebanon.

I suppose a firing squad is too much to ask for, but I’m guessing that soon he’ll announce that he wants to be known as Fatima and he’ll be suing the Pentagon for a sex change.

Even Eisenhower knew how to deal with deserters;

    1. I heard a short time ago he was about to be named as NCO of the Year at Ft Hood, TX (if I’m correct about which post), I hope and pray it was a hoax, I can’t even imagine a bigger way to degrade and devalue the sacrifices of the honest hardworking Troops that deployed with him as well as spitting on the graves of those killed and in the faces of those wounded while searching for him!

      1. I believe that story was a Duffleblog hoax. If your not on that site you should be, its the military version of the Onion and its funny as hell.

  1. How many Marines risked their lives to find this shitbag when he decided he didn’t want to do his job anymore? And why is he still wasting my air in my country?

  2. “Even Eisenhower knew how to deal with deserters”.

    Really? Slovik was the only deserter who fell under Ike’s purview? Slovik was killed as an example. That’s all.

  3. We have a druming cremony or firing squads. Publically strip them of rank and all military devices and send them to the Levenworth for rest of their lives. Can you see the fighs in the ranks for who would be on the firing squads. Joe
