  1. Lackey closing out another World Series?

When’s the last time a pitcher was the winner in the deciding game of two World Series?

  2. I’m worried I might have to wait until tomorrow, and I don’t know if I can handle another night without sleep.

We lose tonight and ZERO chance I don’t take leave on Friday.

  3. And of course, the old nuke in me just HAD to look it up–while there are several cases of pitchers in deciding (final) games of multiple World Series, most of them either had losses or no-decisions.

You have to go back to 1964 and 1967, Bob Gibson pitched (and won) Game 7 in both years to seal the deal for the Cards.

  4. ETA: Just in case anyone cares, Koufax also did it in 1963 and 1965 with the Dodgers. But the fact you’ve got to go back almost 50 years to see someone be a winning pitcher in a deciding game….

And in other news, kids at UNH have been “asked” not to riot if the Sox win tonight. FML.

  5. You see how many streets are closed in Boston tonight? I think Mumbles shut down everything east of Worchester and south of Portland not realizing he only is Mayor of the city.

  6. As Yankee fans and knowing that Boston is still recovering from the terror attack during their marathon, we are cheering on the Red Sox tonight. They deserve and need a win.

  7. TSO–part of that is probably also due to the president being in town as well.

You’d think the guy would wait a couple of days, but noooooo.

Even if I had the $1800 for a ticket, no way in hell I’d be driving there tonight. Take the Nor’easter from Dover or Exeter to North Station and the T from there.

  8. Victorino found his bat!!
Mumbles is all prepared for the Sox to bring home the “Cup”… lmao..

  9. Cards hitting the ball on the nose, but nothing is falling-at least nothing with runners in scoring position.

  10. How many innings is Uehara good for? He might be able to go three if necessary, I mean he isn’t like a lot of closers, he isn’t overpowering batters, so it’s not like his heater will lose enough pop to make a difference if he has to go longer than normal for a closer. I know they’ve still got Tazawa, but if they get to the 7th with this lead, will we see Uehara?

  11. OWB-I am more like rooting against the Sox, but only kinds sorta. I like Uehara, but only because he looks more like a math professor than a closer, so it wouldn’t break my heart to see him get a title.

Him and SPC Mike Loper, who was from Massachusetts and deployed with us to Iraq in 2004, we were at Shelby when the Red Sox got the win that year and he was beyond ecstatic. That was cool (but God help me the New England accent is the most off-putting in the Englich language).

  12. Yankee Fan Says: Chill and enjoy the bubbly Red Sox … well played and deserved. 1918 to 2013 at home win …

  13. And ESPN must be robbing my material…they noted my props to Gibson and Koufax but good on them for noting Lackey is the first to do it with two different teams. And that takes some doing.

  14. “Why was Ortiz wearing a motorcycle helmet?”

Cause his momma says he is special. Bless his heart…
