FARC releases soldier

We discussed Kevin Scott Sutay, a former Army private, when Colombian terrorists of FARC snagged him back in June. Apparently, his release was negotiated by Jesse Jackson, probably because Jackson speaks their Maoist language. The Associated Press reports;

Sutay was in Colombia as a tourist, the U.S. Embassy has said. The FARC said it captured him on June 20 in the municipality of El Retorno in the southeastern state of Guaviare.

When it announced his capture, the FARC said it suspected him of being an agent of the U.S. government, whose close military assistance in training, logistics, surveillance and intelligence since 2000 has helped Colombia’s government badly weaken the rebels.

“What would you think of a man who is in a war zone, who has a secret camera in his watch, who is carrying (global) positioning equipment … who has a military uniform in his suitcase?” FARC negotiator Rodrigo Granda said after the rebels announced his capture.

I can understand someone going to Bogota on vacation (they have beautiful women and some rowdy clubs there), but wandering around the jungle, not so much, but to each their own.

  1. The best way to visit Colombia to this day is to be wearing camo and carrying an m60 and a .45, in lieu of that staying in the city is better than hiking the jungles…of course “hikers” seem to get captured all over the world on a regular basis…it’s what comes of traveling alone or in a small unarmed group.

  2. Sutay was repeatedly warned not to backpack through the jungles and went anyway.

    People are warned to stay away from the coast of Africa, but they sail their boats there anyway.

    Kidnapping only happens to other people.

  3. Yeah, well, having actually vacationed in a third world country, at the risk of sounding like a complete hypocrite: WHAT, ARE YOU A COMPLETE IDIOT???? Risk taking is fine and dandy, but it seriously pays to carefully calculate those risks and stack up a few things which mitigate them.

  4. Jesse Jackson and Cuba …. oh … and Norway I think it was.

    That is fu*kin” sweet … Cuba is doing our bidding now!

    Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave!
