“Two Million Bikers” arrive in DC

The Washington Times reports that the “Two Million Bikers” arrived in DC this morning despite the fact that the US Park Service had denied their permit;

The 2 Million Bikers to DC ride might have fallen short of 2 million strong, but the numbers were impressive. A line of shining chrome and steel bikes stretched about a third of a mile from the starting point at the Harley Davidson of Washington store just outside the District in Prince George’s County.

The bikers began departing from the store at about 10:30 in staggered groups of 50, stopped for traffic lights and taking an hour or so to get on the road.

They were inspired to their journey by the “Million Muslim March” in the city today which is supposed to be protesting the treatment of Muslims since 9-11, while not attributing the attacks of 9-11 on radical jihadists. From the Huffington Post;

It also appears, however, that trutherism will still play a significant role; the DC Area 9/11 Truth Movement and Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth Movement are currently listed as partners.

From Fox12 in Oregon;

However, they and anyone else driving in Washington should expect gridlock. The National Park Service denied the 2 Million Bikers’ application for a permit, so the bikers will not have any route blocked off for them.

A representative for the park service cited a lack of resources and possible disruption as the reasons for denying the permit, which was received in late August.

Yeah, a few thousand bikers riding through the District without a route blocked off, should be much easier to deal with, huh?

  1. Umm… I just searched CNN for “bikers” and “Washington” – 36 results, and not one about this. Media black out indeed.

  2. @3 Thanks. The sites I looked at said they were down.
    Sadly mind had a brake problem, dealer had to order a part, be ready tomorrow. Wanted to go again.

  3. “Yeah, a few thousand bikers riding through the District without a route blocked off, should be much easier to deal with, huh?” Well, of course. To every bureaucrat ever born, it’s the rules. If they (bikers, veterans, Boy Scouts) don’t obey the rules, there is chaos.
    Why would anyone want to set up a route, block cross traffic and get however many bike riders through D.C. in an hour or two, when they can be forced to obey every traffic signal, stop sign, Yield sign, and speed limit, and take 4 or 5 hours to maybe clear a few blocks at a time.

  4. Seems like there is more interest than usual from local media following riders from their communities to DC. That could be a good thing. Especially if the result is more hometown folks getting some real reporting from DC.

  5. Million Muslim March–on Sept 11. I guess that’s their point. Here’s mine: F You and F Off. Thank you.

  6. Reports are starting to roll out of federal agents in full tac gear doing contact sweeps. I wonder if the Million (or is it dozen) muzzie marchers on the Mall are getting the same treatment?

  7. You guys have it all wrong.

    The 2 million bikers are there to support the 17 Muslims who showed for the “Let’s Make Total Jaskasses Out of Ourselves, on September 11th (Patriot’s Day), While Embarrassing every Good Muslim Citizen in the United States March”.

  8. My office is a couple south of Dupont Circle and I’ve been hearing the rumble of bikes all day. It’s an awesome sound.

  9. Did anyone other than Achmed Oobla-Boobla and a bunch of white guilt liberals looking for free food show up at the Muslim “March”?

  10. I saw a tweet that said the DC police were willing to let the bikers in…city council be damned!! Escorted. Woot!!

  11. Saw on Facebook this morning reports of police being extremely friendly, letting them park on the streets, shaking hands, stopping traffic, etc.

  12. Yep, heard they got a pretty good show of support. Wanted to be there, could not take the day off. I’ve only ridden in a couple groups about half the size of the 50 per stick they were rolling. Generally, you stop at the light, when it turns green the “road gaurds” will leave first, block for the rest, then roar to the front for the next one. Kinda fun really.
