IVAW’s Jorge Gonzalez; director of Coffee Strong

Yeah, I haven’t done much with IVAW lately, but this one is just too good to ignore. A week or so ago, I found this. See, Jorge Gonzalez was a director of Coffee Strong, the “GI Coffee House” near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. They provide a place for soldiers to sit around and bitch about how the military sucks over free coffee. They also organize protests there, well, as much as those clusters of hippies can be organized. Gonzalez is a regular on local media as well as crap hippie radio and video shows like Democracy Now! and the International Socialist organization.

I don’t know about his career in the military, but I do know a little bit about what he’s done since he got out;

It seems that he was convicted of lewd or lascivious exhibition with a minor under 16 years old when he was thirty years old. Florida law describes the offense like this;

(a) A person who:

1. Intentionally masturbates;

2. Intentionally exposes the genitals in a lewd or lascivious manner; or

3. Intentionally commits any other sexual act that does not involve actual physical or sexual contact with the victim, including, but not limited to, sadomasochistic abuse, sexual bestiality, or the simulation of any act involving sexual activity in the presence of a victim who is less than 16 years of age, commits lewd or lascivious exhibition.

(b) An offender 18 years of age or older who commits a lewd or lascivious exhibition commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

I can’t find his name on the list of sex offenders. I don’t know what the laws of Florida or Washington State are regarding registering as a sex offender, but I do know that he’s not on the list, Someone said he’s living in New York State now, but I don’t see his name on their sex offender list. There are a couple of them named Jorge Gonzalez but they’re not him. Someone in the New York State Police ought to stop arresting veterans on gun charges for a minute and chase down the real dangerous criminals for a change.

  2. That screenshot is the one from the National Sex Offender Public Website (nsopw.gov), and the same one is at the link to Florida’s site. I don’t know what the laws are pertaining to this, but it seems that FL is tracking his NY address.

  4. Florida is THE model for sex offender registration statutes elsewhere. IF George was convicted in 2009 of a sexual offense and the conviction was not later set aside, then he is required to be registered, to keep the registry current with his address and employment, and to meet the registration requirements of any state in which he temporarily or otherwise resides. Moreover, IF he was or is being supervised by Florida’s probation department, he had to obtain the prior written permission of his probation officer for supervision transfer to another state. Failing to do so is not only a violation of probation but is at odds with the applicable Federal interstate compact law. Sex offender registration DOES NOT end when an offender’s supervision term does. Thus, even if one is no longer being actively supervised on probation, he is subject to registration and re-registration in the state of origin and other states to which he may relocate. Especially in Florida, this could get real serious real quick for a registration violator. Whether any of this applies to George, I cannot determine without a look see at the court records in Martin County, Florida.

  5. One other thing. Although I named only Florida in my last line above, it is crime in most–and most likely ALL–states to fail to register as a sexual offender in a state if one was convicted of a sexual offense in another state or was convicted of an offense in another state which, if committed in the present state of residence, would be a sexual offense there. Again, if a registration-triggering conviction or sentence was reversed, all of this, of course, is moot.
