Another Comes Home

PFC James Hare went overseas in 1949.  Not long afterwards he ended up in Korea.

He was captured.  He died in a POW camp, and was buried in a mass grave.

His remains were in a group of 450 sets of remains returned by North Korea in the early 1990s.  It took a while, but PFC Hare’s remains were finally positively identified.

PFC Hare will be laid to rest today near Cumberland, MD.

Rest in peace, my elder brother-in-arms.  Rest in peace.

  1. Welcome home, brother. Thanks for posting these, Hondo, it really makes me remember the price that’s been paid .

  2. LanceCooley: don’t mind doing it. Everyone who gives their all in this nation’s service should get a proper burial.

Even if that burial is six plus decades after the fact, it’s still something that they deserve. We owe them that.

  3. According to an article I read regarding PFC Hare, he was reported MIA on this very date, 13 February. He was later listed as a POW and reportedly died of starvation in a North Korean camp during April 1952.

They are never gone who are remembered.
