Young Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis parked what he thought was a thousand-pound truck bomb outside the New York Federal Reserve this morning right before he was arrested in a federal sting operation. He says that he came to this country from Bangladesh on a student visa for the specific purpose of creating terrorism in the US hoping to disrupt the elections next month. From NBC New York;
Prosecutors say Nafis met the agent Wednesday morning and put the bomb inside a van before driving to the Fed building, assembling the detonator while he drove.
The pair parked the van by the Fed, got out and walked to a hotel, where Nafis covered his face, put on sunglasses and recorded a video statement he meant to be released after the attack. He then tried to detonate the bomb through a cell phone detonator, officials said.
Law enforcement officials stress that the plot was a sting operation monitored by the FBI and NYPD and the public was never at risk. The materials he believed were explosives had been rendered inoperable, officials said.
Nafis was charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al-Qaida. His attorney declined comment after a court appearance.
Sooner or later these dickwads are going to figure this stuff out and get lucky.

According to the TV news, the “young scholar” was issued a visa to attend a college in Missouri. He must have been commuting from his Queens apt. Doesn’t ICE even check if these jamokes enroll in their schools after landing here?

Had Chinese espionage agents as students where I went for a PhD in Missouri. This was when B-2 was new. Disappeared after a while, missed a lot of classes, funny then FBI showed up. Day late and a dollar short as usual. Probably happens a lot. Why not shut down Muslim nations and China for student visas. OK, the ones with known terrorist sympathies like Saudi and points East.

To those claiming the man was “set up”, BULL SHIT!! He approached the agent, the agent did not push him to do anything he just facilitated what the terrorist was asking for. He was not forced or coerced into placing the device, making the video, or making the call that was to set off the 1,000 pounds of explosives he thought he had placed. His intent was clear.
Nothing about this case calls for entrapment. The FBI gave this guy plenty of rope to hang himself. At the end of the day, he followed through with intent having plenty of opportunity to back out. Had he backed out at any point, he would have been charged with conspiracy to commit terrorist acts, or some other applicable offense which would have garnered a lengthy sentence. My guess is this won’t be considered domestic terrorism like the “Underwear Bomber” or the attempted car bomb in Times Square some time ago. My only concern about these clowns is whether they should be sent to Gitmo, least they get thoroughly indoctrinated and released to spawn more damage. Cautiously – I add, these folks will figure out they need to be more patient and find all the resources themselves and not involve anyone else. One will eventually be successful. In terms of student visas, there needs to be more control, rather, if you’re in this country, some type of mechanism needs to be in place to confirm the student is enrolled and not miles away. If not, they get snatched up and sent home. (Online courses don’t count. Young Mr. Snafu’s could have taken online courses from his training camp in Bangladesh).
