Phony fakes deployment, all the way to the bank

Dan sends us a link to KOMO News, Seattle which tells the tale of a King County jail officer, Jose Abarca, who told his employers he was deploying and presented phony orders to support his lie and eventually bilked everyone out of over a hundred thousand dollars, well, until he got caught;

Writing the court, a Seattle detective claimed Abarca submitted a set of falsified orders in February 2010. After that fake deployment, the detective continued, Abarca filed eight leave requests for shorter period of time.

At the time, Abarca was actually being discharged from the National Guard for medical reasons, the detective continued. He was not allowed to attend drills or training for much of that time.

Abarca has been charged with first-degree theft and forgery. He has not been jailed in the case.

Well, now he gets another free vacation from work.

  1. He was not allowed to attend drills or training for much of that time.

Translation, he was a shitbag in his unit. I can’t imagine a Guard unit not letting you do SOMETHING while your paperwork is being processed, even if it’s manning a desk.

  2. Jail officer possibly going to the slammer – how poetic.
Man, the NG really lost a real gem of a citizen soldier – bet Jose is one of them Craiglist “I’m going on deployment” scammers.

  3. “Translation, he was a shitbag in his unit. I can’t imagine a Guard unit not letting you do SOMETHING while your paperwork is being processed, even if it’s manning a desk.”

Most if not all the states guard have medical holding companies for this exact reason.

  4. Well, look at the bright side, at least he’ll know the shower schedule real well, so he and Bubba can have some “cuddle time” without being disturbed.

  5. what a fucking piece of shit! I had to go in for over 60 days of useless off the wall training before Bosnia, and had to beg for frigging orders to cover me at work. Same thing for Iraq a year later.
I hope this guy gets it in the ass in prison.

  6. I wish some scientist could find that if we ground these assholes up into a fine paste we’d get crude oil. At the rate they’re popping up, we wouldn’t need to buy another barrel. Ever.

Hell, let’s give it a shot. Take all the fakers and phonies and grind ’em up and see if we can get some sort of oil out of their useless hides.

It’s worth a shot, and if it doesn’t work, we aren’t out anything important.

  7. Ok, who’s bull$hitting who here? You’re talking about the People’s Republik of Washington! They’ll probably promote this POS to SgtMaj and give him a full retirement.

  8. I was on Medical Hold in California for 6 months in 09 and was not allowed to drill or go to AT. It sucked. I was finally cleared a few days after Christmas. 3 years after California tried to kick me out on a medical, here I am in Afghanistan, and I didn’t even need a waiver.

  9. While on Independent duty (regular component Marines serving on staff in support of reserve unit), any med-hold folks were REQUIRED to attend drill due to their contractual obligation, unless they had a valid medical excuse that determined they could not travel due to medical reasons. In that regard, they would perform drill in a light duty or limited duty status, which meant they were not required to participate in the “physical requirements” of the plan of the day, but they still had to contribute their time and be gainfully employed somehow. If they failed to show, they would accumulate “unsatisfactory drills” and could be processed for admin separation due to “unsatisfactory participation”. I wonder how this guy’s shenanigan’s will shape up the rules and business practices for those reservists who honorably and legitimately serve and will now come under scrutiny of the department.

  10. I trained with the Washington Guard when I was in the Oregon Guard, pre-OIF 1. Those guys almost made my unit look like Special Forces. Heck, the only thing the unit we were training with did right was cook good food (something our cooks couldn’t do). Then again, their cooks were so over weight I was sure they were only in because of some elite-level pencil work.

  11. I deployed with joe in 08-09. At the time we were together he was a great guy. He was hurt at the NCO academy and was being discharged at the time. I am sure there is more to the story than the papers are saying. I for one am with “Innocent until proven guilty.” Just saying most of you took an oath to defend the constitution and this is one of the provisions of it.

Know all the facts before you pass judgement, I give him a 10 for a character reference.

  12. I never get tired of hearing how the constitution is supposed to suppress my speech. I guarantee you that if I’m ever on his jury, I’ll consider him innocent until he’s proven guilty. Otherwise, no I’m not bound by that.

  13. @ Kpployhar … Service Check – Branch and dates of service?

Tell us more about the accused.

    Tell us more about yourself.

You see, this is not a court of law here.

It is more like a Kangaroo Court. A Kangaroo Court with very skilled Judges, Investigators, Lawyers, Jurers, and appreciative spectators.

  14. @kployhar

Our BS is just as relevant as your BS unless YOU provide FACTS!

    See how that works?

  15. Kployhar: the fact that he deployed in 2008-2009 may well be true.

However, in this case it is also completely irrelevant. Abarca is accused of using forged orders to fake a second, later deployment – in 2010.

  16. Abarca served 2 tours and he was a great soldier. He is an amazing officer and did his time. Please know the facts this is a good guy in the wrong spot right now who got hurt and never was taken care of

  17. Abarca, was a good soldier and a good Corrections officer. however that was in his past. He now joins the ranks of the rest of the shitbags in this facility. Yes he will be given the same rights as any other shitbag in a red uniform. The charging papers state. From 2010 to 2012 he forged papers and took payment. The Prosecutor does not have charging papers typed up on anyone, w/o probably cause and evidence for the charges.
The situation this county is in, he will probably get a Plea deal. minumum to no time and some fines. Uncalled for but true…
He not only digraced Himself the National guard and the uniform he was wearing until July, when he resigned. He saw an opportunity to do wrong and he took it. That makes him a shitbag as stated in other posts.

If they do the crime make them do the damn time, or eliminate the bastards.
