You guys all know the close the relationship that this blog has had with the good folks at POW Network, and we were truly saddened when Chuck Schantag died recently. And you also know that I don’t ask for much from you, but, if you have a couple of extra bills in your wallet this month, I’d consider it a person favor if you toss them in to the Chuck Schantag Memorial Fund – every penny will go to help Mary through this difficult transition in her life.

While service to your country is respectable and commendable, being nothing but a two-bit cyber-bully until your dying day is not.
Service to one’s country 4 decades ago does not give license to become some self-proclaimed “phoney-veteran exposer”, unilaterally posting folks’ personal info with oft-times-than-not, little to no real evidence or adjudication. A mere anonymous email was seemingly enough for the “POWnetwork” to slander someone on their site.
I’m a veteran myself, and when I called his so-called organization (POWnetwork) about a close personal friend who had his private info wrongly plastered as a “phoney” on Mr. Schantag’s “website”, I wasn’t even given the time of day. Literally. I was hung up on before I could get the words, “I’m a veteran myself…” out of my mouth. Despicable. And just went to show their so-called “POWnetwork” phonies-brigade was only about one thing: Themselves.
Is this how a so-called champion of American Veterans treats his fellow veterans? By hanging up and not even listening to what they have to say? Outrageous and unforgivable. Totally at odds with everything they claimed to represent.
You were nothing but a cyber-bully Chuck. A pathetic, scummy, and dishonorable way to live out your life; with the only true “purpose” of harassing other people just to build yourself up and feel better about yourself. It was all ego.
So no sympathy from me. Sorry, a few years of military service doesn’t give someone a lifetime pass to bully people and not even have an open ear to a fellow veteran in doing so.

Hey, “veteran” (#2 above – and yes, I’m intentionally using lower case here): Go fuck yourself. Chuck Schantag was twice the man you’ll ever be.
And I don’t care if you personally served in Vietnam and came home with a Purple Heart and decorations for valor. The fact that you have a problem with exposing phony claimants tells me you have little or no integrity – regardless of your history. Those who tolerate wrongdoing without protest are as much a part of the problem as those doing the wrong. And above, you’ve placed yourself firmly in the same camp as the liars and thieves.
Chuck, rest his soul, wasn’t part of the problem. He was part of the solution.
I never met Mary nor Chuck. However I have been involved with the two for years before during and after the exposure of the worlds greatest martial artist / Death Marchant/ Dr. Maung Gyi.
Pownetwork.org was around and having some sucess with attention for the website and about what it was all about. But once the intense and long term investigations of Gyi and the vetting of his information and the multible warnings for him to Cease and Desist and quit protraying as a world famous warrior the web site sky rocketed into the media and main stream internet.
Gyi’s exposure is what brought Chuck and Mary to the worlds attention at about lighting speed.
From what I understand Mary and Chuck were big players in the largest gathering in the free world of veterans during the Veterans Day celebration in Branson? Mo.
I assure you Chuck died a warrior in his last battle and because of that and his service to America’s veterans we all should be grateful and supportative of the Schantags work.

@veteran: The Schantags were/are scrupulous in trying to ensure that they did not falsely accuse anyone. Quite contrary to what you claim, they do not just blindly post based on an anonymous email; they do their homework, submit the SF 180s, and POST what they find for everyone to scrutinize. In those rare cases where they were wrong, they posted public apologies. Also, they’ve been the target of numerous lawsuits charging libel, slander, and who-knows-how-many other frivolous and nonsensical charges. Bet you can’t find a one that was successful. Pretty good track record for over 20 years, I’d say.
Furthermore, they CLEARLY post on their web site that they do NOT TAKE PHONE CALLS about phonies. They want input in WRITING, either through emails or real mail. If you can’t take the time to do YOUR homework and give them the FACTS, IN WRITING, then they don’t owe you a minute of their time. Obviously you don’t have diddly squat, or you’d have done more than just called them.
They have done, and Mary and the people who help her will continue to do yeoman service for all of us by exposing the wannabees and phonies who so richly deserve to be embarrassed and shamed. I’ve supported what they do through a contribution through their web site (and will do so again in the near future) and I sent a contribution to help Mary as she copes with what has happened. I encourage all who read and contribute to Jonn’s blog to do the same.
By the way, veteran…just a thought…individuals and organizations such as SOCNET, the US Army Ranger Association, DIA’s POW/MIA Office, the Military Times Hall of Valor, and many, many others applaud and support what Chuck and Mary have done, and have depended on and worked closely with pownetwork.org. The Schantags have history, credibility, and accountability on their side.
All you have on your side is a bug up your ass. Need help removing it? Just let me know what your address is, and I’ll gladly spring for a pair of needle-nose pliers for you to pull it out with.

Why did YOU call the POWNETWORK about “your ‘Personal Close Friend'”?
Why didn’t your “Personal Close Friend” contact the POWNETWORK to back up his or her claim as to whatever he or she was claiming? There is a thing called “email” as well as “snail mail.”
There has to be a reason whoever you talked to hung up on you. You must have said something that was in a way harassing the person on the phone. What is the “rest of the story?”
By the way, IF you are indeed a “veteran”, what does that have to do with you backing up your “Personal Close Friend”? Chuck was a VETERAN. I am a VETERAN. There are other VETERANS who encounter phonies, so again, what does you wanting to tell the POWNETWORK that you are a “veteran” have anything to do with backing up your “Personal Close Friend’s” claim? Just because you are a “veteran” does not necessarily mean your “Personal Close Friend’s” story was true.
Have you ever written the POWNETWORK or sent them an email to back up your “Personal Close Friend’s” claim?
How do you know your “Personal Close Friend” is telling you the truth about their claims? Do you personally have proof of their claims?
Or is it simply that YOU are the “Personal Close Friend?” and were trying to cover your tracks pretending you were the Phony’s “Personal Close Friend” in hopes that YOU would have YOUR information taken off POWNETWORK Website?

Interesting how you found Chuck’s Memorial Fund site on this Blog. Did you do an Internet search site on Chuck Schantag and find this site about Chuck’s Memorial Fund or did your “Personal Close Friend” ask you to write your comment? Or have you been keeping close tabs on Chuck via Internet since the day that person hung up on you?
The more I read what you wrote, I believe that it is YOU that is the “Personal Close Friend” and that YOU are one of the Phonies listed on their Website. Your comment shows you harbor a deep resentment toward Chuck.
IF you are a ‘”veteran” AND if you read about each person featured on the POWNETWORK who embellished their military status or worse, pretended to be a “veteran”, then you perhaps may feel the same as other VETERANS who actually served our country: you would feel as if someone slapped you on the face. It does not matter if you were drafted or volunteered, if you were or were not in a combat situation, if you served on land, sea or air, if you were Combat Arms or Supply or Admin or Medical. We all as Veterans served our country one way or another.
That is why it is called STOLEN VALOR. Imagine enduring the emotional and physical abuse and hardship of being a Prisoner of War or in Chuck’s case, wounded so severely that he had to endure 6 months of surgery as well as experience the trauma of losing his hearing as well as living with pieces of shrapnel embedded in his body to remind him the rest of his life the hell he experienced while he was serving our country in Vietnam.
Then, as a VETERAN, imagine reading a news article or an obituary about a person claiming to have been a Vietnam POW or being a Distinguished Cross Recipient or telling a story about being “fighting” in WWII or Korea or Vietnam or Afghanistan or Iraq and then discovering later that the stories were fabricated or embellished. That is,the individual was a Prisoner-a prisoner in a prison in the United States or the person received 3 Bronze SERVICE Stars on their military medal or ribbons, but told everyone they received 3 BRONZE STARS. Or the individual was actually a cook serving his country in Vietnam, not “fighting:, but for some reason, was ashamed to admit he was a cook.
IF you are a “veteran”, then I am surprised that you don’t feel some sort of resentment toward those individuals who pretended to be a “veteran” or embellished their military service instead of displaying hatred toward a deceased Marine and his widow who exposed those individuals for who they really were or are (PHONIES AND WANNABEES). As a “veteran”, you would feel gratitude to an individual who was willing to risk his life during Vietnam for our country.
If you don’t want to give to The Memorial Fund, then that is your choice, because after all, it is because of our Service Men and Women and our Founding Fathers that we live in a country where we DO have a Freedom of Choice and in your case, it is very obvious that you are not going to provide a donation.
That same choice gave you the freedom to express your cold, heartless comment about Chuck while his widow is still grieving. So in this case, look at yourself in the mirror, “veteran” because YOU are the Cyber-Bully. Additionally, you need to reread what you wrote. Twice in your comment, you referred Chuck as a “fellow veteran”. Yet your words of hatred reflect that you are not a “fellow” veteran.
You are just as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. It’s time for you to go down the Yellow Brick Road and find yourself a “heart” which in this case, you clearly have demonstrated that you do not have one since you tried to dishonor your “fellow veteran” only a month after his passing. I guess in your Internet searching, you fail to find his obit and read that this Honorable Marine left behind a wife, children, grandchildren and siblings.
And if you do find your heart, I hope you heat the oil in your oil can and apply it to your cold heart.
And please don’t come back to me with a comment that the Phonies and Wannabees had families as well. Because I already know that and also know the emotional damage that some of them have inflicted on their love ones because of their lies.

@7 Chuck: I’m one of those “Gestapo’ volunteers you referred to, and I’m damn proud that my hours of research & money from my own pockets have been extremely fruitful in obtaining FOIA documents that validated and added a few more fakers, posers, & wannabees to the halls of shame!! How about you @7 Chuck: – care to make a bet regarding proof of your “Veteran” status? I’ll bet you a mouthful of piss and you can hold the stakes!
