I beleive that its Sun Tzu that said that We should treat all warriors as our children. Some where we lost that idea. I have 3 boys of my own, they all enlisted 2 are out of the military and 1 is still in, ( he is a devil doc. When ever I see any one in uniform I see them as my kid. If I have any extra cash I will pay for their food or a pack of smokes. Its the least I can do to repay them. Its what some one did for me. I was in a bus depot in Saginaw Mi, in 1977, waiting for a bus. This big pimp came up to me ( I was asleep)kicked my feet told me to come with him he wanted to buy me breakfast. I hadnt eaten in 1.5 days I was enroute to my duty station. I figured what the heck, we walked across the street to this little joint, he told me to order what I wanted to eat and if I smoked. I ordered my chow said yes I do smoke he got up purchased 2 packs of smokes came back put them on the table and said here. I said I dont want to be ungreatful but whats the deal here ? His responce was ” look I screwed up my life. I want you to serve for you and me. If we ever have to go to war I want you to do your job for you and me.” He go up from the table and left.
It was a lesson in humility for me. I try to keep this going as much as I can afford.
