Academics dubbed morons by blogger

Yeah, OK, I’m the blogger, but you’ll agree, I’m sure if you read the Washington Times article entitled “Academics dub tea partyers devout, racist“;

Gathering this weekend in Seattle for the annual American Political Science Association convention, several professors argued that tea party Republicans are more likely than other voters, and even than most others in the GOP, to harbor racial hostility, as judged by their answers in a broad pre-election survey administered in October 2010.

“Tea Party activists have denied accusations that their movement is racist, and there is nothing intrinsically racist about opposing ‘big government’ or clean energy legislation or health care reform. But it is clear that the movement is more appealing to people who are unsympathetic to blacks and who prefer a harder line on illegal immigration than it is to other Americans,” wrote Gary C. Jacobson, a professor at the University of California, San Diego, in his paper “The President, the Tea Party, and Voting Behavior in 2010.”

Yeah, I’ll concede that tea party members might be unsympathetic to Blacks merely BECAUSE they’re black, but that’s kind of the whole point of the civil rights movement, isn’t it? Liberals see Blacks as incompetent children who need liberals’ help, whereas conservatives see Blacks as people just like us who are as competent and well-adjusted as we are and the vast majority of Blacks are just like I said…and there is a tiny minority of them who want handouts and need to be coddles…just like there are whites who do the same thing.

I guess it’s easier for “academics” to just toss out the racist label than to admit that they are the ones who’ve perverted Martin Luther King Jr’s message and dream.

“Tea Party supporters displayed high levels of racial resentment and held very negative opinions about President Obama compared with the rest of the public and even other Republicans,” [Alan I. Abramowitz, a professor at Emory University] wrote. “In a multivariate analysis, racial resentment and dislike of Barack Obama, along with conservatism, emerged as the most important factors contributing to support for the Tea Party movement.”

Maybe conservatives think that Obama is an incompetent boob irrespective of the level of melanin in his skin pigment. Notice how large numbers of former Obama supporters are coming to the same conclusion.

  1. Jonn- Every black person I know who voted for the P2 claims we’re all racist if we’re against the policy. They cannot separate the melanin factor from that.

Have you read Kevin Jackson over at The Black Sphere? He’s worth a look.

  2. I think they’re wrong for the right reasons. Tea Party activists DO tend to be less sympathetic to identity politics and less inclined toward racial empathy. It’s part of their paradigm; the misjudgment comes in considering this to be racist. It only takes a cursory glance at polling among the Tea Party and a counting of freshmen Congressmen to see their broad support for candidates like Herman Cain and a substantial addition of Black and Hispanic Tea Party backed Reps. It’s the politics that matter to them, not race.

I’m not a Tea Party person by any stretch of the imagination, the opposite in fact. I have deep, fundamental ideological and philosophical conflict with them, in fact. Still, I always found the lazy caricaturization of them as racist to be not just crass race baiting but intellectually lazy. It offends me on general principal.

  3. I’m not at all concerned about the melanin content of Obama’s skin as I am the positions he takes contrary to traditional American values; self-reliance, smaller government, adherence to the Constitution as it was originally intended and a fierce defense of our national interests. On virtually every count, you can count on our Dear Leader to oppose everything listed. Is that born from race, or from him being an ideological alien in regard to the vast majority of Americans? I suppose we’ll find out in 2012.

  4. And while we’re at it, I’d love for someone to explain to me how voting FOR Obama due to his being black is any less racist than voting against him for the same reason.

  5. Look at all the stellar examples of overlooking skin color we have amongst our representatives in Congress. Andre Carson, Emmanuel Cleaver, John Lewis, John Conyers, Maxine Waters, just to name a few. Not one of those folks would ever throw race into an equation about voting for a candidate./s

  6. “Professor” – Someone who has never held a real job. With few exceptions.

White People put obama in office.

Conservative means: small unobtrusive government and success for everyone.

But the liberals have to lie, incite and misdirect. It’s all they’ve got.

It’s like having 3 yr olds in charge. They can’t actually accomplish anything because they don’t have the slightest clue how to. So, anything they do or say is some pathetic defense. Though they are ‘good’ at it.

I also believe obama and the democrat non-performance and destructiveness is intentional.

And how pathetic are ‘republicans’ for not being able to counter this?

    Tea Party or puke.

  7. If blacks want to know why whites, in some cases, have a problem with them I have a good example.
Yesterday my wife and I stopped at a roadside fruit and vegetable stand. I turned off the highway and was going into the parking lot. In front of us was a car blocking the bloody driveway. Since there was a fence around the place making it hard to get by, I sat for a few seconds thinking mister privileged was looking for a parking spot in a dirt lot. When I figured he wasn’t going to move I angled around the car. Inside a woman was jawing on a cell phone and there was no driver.
As we approached the stand a guy came walking out with one watermelon and walked straight to the blocking car, staring at me like I had offended HIM!
I parked, we got out, and started choosing our stuff. The guy got in his car and just sat there, not moving.
Another car pulled behind him trying to get in and the freakin’ guy still just sat there. This place had another entrance/exit so it wasn’t like the blocker was blocked in himself. Finally, the last car did what I did and pulled around. But that driver got out and walked over to the offending car. The offending driver rolled his window down and, honest to God, asked the ticked off driver if he knew who the president was! Yeah, that’ll make it all right.
The whole time this was going on the owner of the fruit stand and his wife were telling the guy just to pull forward and stop blocking their driveway.
And they wonder why some whites don’t like them.

  8. Let’s see – for me to judge the content of his character rather than make assumptions based on his skin color makes ME a racist? Do Waters et al have any idea what MLK said, taught, or stood for??

(OK – some of them DO know but no one who calls “racist” gives a flip about reality, their own race, or the country.)

  9. Ask to see the raw numbers, and the algorithms/formulae used to come up with their conclusions.

One can program SPSS to come out with any conclusion desired, but the raw numbers and math never lie.

Or will the DNC allow them the academic freedom to engage in actual research?

  10. I wonder how they’ll feel about Trumka’s comments? Or Hoffa’s comments today? Or Obumble’s comments about if they bring a knife, bring a gun? Or Mike Capuano’s quote about spilling some blood?

Swear to Christ if these people ever lived up to the demands they placed on everyone else I’d drop dead from a heart attack.

  11. Actually Jonn, I’ll go one step further. Follow the money, as they say. Is an academic going to get a grant if they put out “studies” saying Tea Party types are not racists?

Or, to the contrary, are they going to get more grants, money, etc., just like Potok and his merry band of ass-clowns over at the SPLC do when they see right-wing racist supremacists under every rock using the most dubious of “logic”?

  12. It’s not true. I think Barry’s white half is just as incompetent as his black half.

Christ! How come I wasn’t being racist when I opposed Bill Clinton and the other white Dems, but now that the same leftist drivel is being proposed by a black man I’m suddenly the Grand Poobah Wizard?

I throw the BS flag on this “study”.

  13. The race argument will not wash with Obama. He is a mulatto. He is half white, and half black. And all asshole. But a perfect one.
