SGT K and David Thul sent us this link to the story of a Native-American female, Elizabeth McKenzie, whom no one in her hometown noticed that she wasn’t in the Army. They awarded her some local honors;
There was a tribal drum ceremony and a reception line. Accepting the town’s gratitude, McKenzie talked about the close calls she’d had and a war injury that brought her home. She led the march in the high school gym, carrying the American flag, and the local newspaper documented the hero’s return.
But none of it was true. The 20-year-old McKenzie was never injured in combat, had never been to Afghanistan, never been deployed anywhere. In fact, she’s never been in the military.
A recruiter at the local college brought up the fact that MacKenzie had been in class when she claimed to have been in Afghanistan. Some of the veterans noticed that the rank on her cap and her blouse were different and neither matched the rank she claimed.
I guess the liar class are more diverse than we could imagine.
In a telephone interview with Lakeland Public Television, McKenzie said she wanted to honor family members who had served in the military and then said she would be willing to accept help if anyone was willing to provide it. Her mother, who lives in Two Harbors, told the station that McKenzie had struggled with mental health problems for years, which had led to her estrangement from family members.
Ah, the old Veterans for Peace ploy of honoring their family members with stolen valor. And throw in the “mental health problems” excuse for good measure. Her family didn’t notice she wasn’t in Afghanistan?

Well, if she was estranged from her family… I’m sure it must have been am embarrassment to them in the first place, seeing what she was doing. It must be so hard for a family member to stand against his/her own and point out a lie.

Seems like you can get away with just about anything if you’ve got mental health issues. Begs the question, at what point do you actually hold a person accountable for their actions?
Come on, didn’t anyone realize right off the bat that she’s far too attractive and in shape to actually be an Army female??
Maybe she went on one of the old “Phoenix Program” trips ya know? All clandestine like, spirited away on an Air America flight so secret, rode an unmarked black Huey into battle, returning just as quietly and nobody would ever know. Maybe that was the Veterans Peace ploy you were thinking of, Jonn.
But she’s an Indian, so she’ll get a pass as all the enablers will be hollering “Racists! at anyone who points these things out. They don’t allow facts to get in the way of their storylines.
Sporkmaster; She asked for help? She wanted to honor family members? Sounds like the guy that you and I have discussed not so long ago.
Has mental health issues? Sounds like the kid up in Wash state that tried to get into Lewis/McChord awhile back, eh?
They just keep on coming in, don’t they.
I am not even Army and this pisses me off immensely. This hog needs a serious beatdown resulting in a hospital stay. I bet she will then get her mind right super quick and not try to pull this shit again, after the casts come off.
My sister is in the military and I’m very proud of her. To see something like this is so upsetting. If she has mental health issues, the don’t seem to be that convincing. Her elaborated “hoax” started a whole year before that. And to AW1 Tim, she’s not native american. I don’t think she has any mental problems, I think she’s just another girl who was desperate for attention. Her actions are in insult to every soldier and veteran alive and I hope people never let her forget what a scumbag she truly is.
I’d love to come face to face with this little puke. I’d slap her so hard her grandkids would have headaches.
The California (where else?) 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, a bastion of leftwing judges, ruled a while back that the Stolen Valor Act was “unconstitutional”. I don’t know where in the hell impersonating a member of the military is protected under the constitution. I’ve read the document, and I’ve never seen any reference to that so-called “right”.
Lying about your military service, fraud, and impersonating is “ free speech”? Well hell, in that case, just provide a fill-in-the-blank DD214 for these turds so they can create their own “history”, carte blanche.
What about perjury, obstruction of justice, or impersonating a police officer or a doctor? Can I computer-generate a law-school diploma along with an impressive resume, and call myself a judge?
Servicemembers caught doing what McKenzie did are subject to Courts Martial. Former servicemembers and civilians should not be exempt from prosecution.
It’s called “Stolen Valor” for a reason.
It’s disgusting that these cases of “Stolen Valor” keep coming up and that the perpetrators keep getting away with a slap on the wrist – at most! Ias was mentioned above, one would never get away with being able to print our a fauz medical certificate or legal certificate; however, since it’s merely a “military thing” it doesn’t deserve any meaningful punishment. It was only a short time ago that this site, along with the good people at the POW/MIA Foundation exposed the author of the “Spooky 8” book as a complete fraud: he had claimed to have been an airborne-qualified infantryman who served in Viet Nam, when in truth, he dropped out of Airborne School and spent the rest of his time as a driver for a Colonel in Fort Sill, IK. So much for him being the big commando he claims to be, yet he keeps his claims on his website to attract more readers. THis country needs to get serous about cracking down on these frauds accross the book, in all 50 states, with no exceptions. That way, they won’t be able to profit from their lies, deciet, and cowardice.
It’s a shame anyone would want to disrespect the integrity of an nco by posing to be one. Well if the whole fake soldier thing doesn’t work out I’m sure her astonishing looks will get her places. I’m all for imprisonment…..let her be the masculine turd that her loud mouth proclaims to be from inside a jail cell & if she wants to get wounded so bad she can ask one of them, I’m sure they would be very accommodating. Out.
There was a soldier who was also from the small town of Cass Lake and was killed in action. Dwayne McFarland. He is yet to receive the recognition that was shown this fake.

Make it clear she is not native American either, people assume because she was from a foster home in cass lake she is and she has always claimed to be but is by no means native
Just let her go…into any VFW post and announce what she did. For good measure, turn and lock the door.
@ #1 Anonymous: Yes, it would be an embarrassment and very hurtful to the family. Imagine being duped by all those lies, swallowing them hook line and sinker. Becoming even more estranged from the family would be a result of actions and words by this mentally distubed girl who needs help.
“This is hell, but she can’t see it from there.” Even if the family pointed it out, she can’t comprehend that she’s ill. She said she’d accept help, but is she getting it? Hoping she will get good help and be committed to a mental institution, mental hospital or prison ward for those with grandiose delusions. As someone who is also mentally ill, I can identify. She doesn’t see her lies and elaborate manipulations of family, towns and tribes. Yes, n.n., I agree she’s “merely an ego seeking an audience.” Attention. I feel so sorry for her.
Wasn’t she the one that was in the news a few months back complaining she was harassed by the airport people???
