500 residents of a Modesto, CA neighborhood decided they can’t depend on the police to protect them now, so they plan to hire a private security company to do the job for which they already pay taxes.
The residents are members of the College Area Neighborhood Alliance.
“I don’t know the feeling on an armed patrol. That may becoming a little bit drastic,” said neighbor Dave Jones. “I don’t feel the need for it yet.”
Residents must first approve the plan to bring in armed security guards and at least 500 residents will have to pay $25 a month for the patrol.
Old Trooper sent me the link with the comment that I’d enjoy the comments. Most of the comments are the type you’d expect; if you clowns hadn’t let the government take your guns, you wouldn’t need a hired security force. But I especially liked this comment from a Canadian;
John
If you american conservative moneybags opened your wallets a little, maybe poor people wouldn’t be forced to steal??
In Canada we have a safety net for everyone including the rich. By looking after our less advantaged, the rich are much safer here.
BTW- we don’t want your rich. They only blow up the banking system with their greedy selfserving ways.
Yeah, I’d rather deal with crooks in Modesto than liberals in Canada.

$25 a month? For a licensed, bonded, and HEAVILY insured armed security force? What is that — an introductory offer??
That’s $25 each from 500 households.
Yes. And it doesn’t say whether it’s a gated community or not, which does make a difference in price for armed security.
Idea: Arm themselves.
Voila, armed security.
In reply to the Canuck:
Not ALL Conservatives are wealthy, as you have implied or have thought. Secondly, we, as citizens, already pay taxes for police protection. Thirdly, the majority of these “criminals” are in our country ILLEGALLY!! If I recall, Canada has even more stringent immigration laws than the USA. Felons aren’t allowed, regardless of WHAT the felony might have been. Forget bringing a handgun into Canada. Finally, I’ve run across a significant number of Canadian ex-pats here in the USA. If Canada is so wonderful, then WHY are you folks moving here?? I won’t even get into the sub-standard medical care that Canada’s socialized medicine provides. Need an abortion, it’s done forthwith. Need a life-saving surgery and one might possibly die before they receive that surgery. I guess the Canadians jut enjoy seeing their own die off or be murdered.
ROS; it’s the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia; they’re not allowed to be armed.
Dear Canadian Mutton Head,
As someone who frequently travels to Canada, allow me to politely ask you how much Canadian conservatives would have had to pay Canadian Serial Killers Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, or that cross-dressing murderer Canadian Air Force Col. Russell Williams not to kill people?
Oh, and for some reason, my buddies in the RCMP and OPP tell me not to go near the St. Laurent/St. Denis neighborhood in Montreal because the gangs own those neighborhoods at night. Guess you need to pay them more.
Signed,
AP
P.S. Steven Harper is a god.
With the exception that California is very anti- 2nd Amendment in most areas, they would do well to follow Texas’ lead towards criminal trespass. In Texas, we can shoot any trespassers. Remember Joe Horn?? Unfortunately, California has too many bleeding heart Liberal at the reins.
The problem in Calif is yes they do pay taxes…but so much of their tax dollar is wasted on stupid shit. Many money wasting elected pukes are trying to blame the shortages on overpaid retirement plans and pay, but when some agencies are spending millions of dollars on big shit that doesn’t work…then spending more and more to fix it (look at software for some cities, counties etc for example) and then the go broke.
Or, like the City of Bell…lots of other agencies are paying the top people some out of sight salaries, then blaming the workers for the problems.
Also, look at how Calif is forced to spend Tax money. Over 85% is for specific projects! Some of these projects are out of date, but require voter approval to change…and to get that you need 75% of the voters to approve the change.
crooks in Modesto than liberals in Canada.
With little difference between crooks and liberals… I assume you mean you prefer the weather in Modesto?
Perhaps “John” would be surprised mto learn that Canada’s volent crime rateb is double the USA’s. For 2009, Canada 935 violent crimes per 100,000; America 466.
If by “California is anti-2A in most areas” you mean LA metro area and the Bay Area, then yes. If you mean, going by land area, 90% of the state is pro-2A then you would also be right. We have Castle doctrine here, we have (unloaded) open carry, and Stanislaus county, where Modesto is located, is effectively shall-issue for CCW permits; same as any Southern or Rocky Mountain state.
I guess they figure $25 each is cheaper than each going out and spending $250-350 on a 12ga shotgun, a few boxes of buckshot, and a trip to the range, maybe? That said, armed guards or not, I’d get a gun and apply for a CCW permit…
@ Anon:
Judging by California’s laws, I would say that they’re anti-2nd Amendment. It’s far from the California I left in 1986. And yes, I realize that it’s the Metro shit holes that seem to get these stupid laws passed. Minnesota has a similar problem.
In addition, Texas’ Castle Doctrine covers one’s entire property, not just one’s home. It even goes as far to protect a neighbor’s property, if so requested.
@ Thor:
You’re confusing the views of our two senators, a few urban state reps/assemblymen, and some rich assholes with the views’ of the majority of California’s population. I’ve been to Texas, I’ve been to Georgia and Alabama, I see WAY more NRA, anti-Obama stickers, etc, here in suburban So Cal than I have anywhere else. I have a feeling that even if 90% of CA’s population was hardliner pro-2A, our politicians would still be anti-gun. Incumbents rarely if ever lose here, and sure as hell don’t change their views to reflect their constituents. And your few decent local pol’s, mostly from rural areas, don’t have the money or aren’t recognizable enough to make it anywhere serious. See Tom McClintock circa 2003 for an example.
If these people are serious they can purchase a Mossberg Model 88 for $180 from Academy Sports and initial supply of shells maybe $250 max to get started. Several boxes of #4 and #00 buck.
@ 14, Most posters here may not know county sheriff’s issue CCW permits…Somehow, I suspect I know who you are. Hey bro.
Pinto is right about gated communties. This has all come about because of massive illegal immigration from the 3rd world, most from Mexico. The southwest(including Texas) is becoming a shithole because of it. The Democrats are importing enthic constitunencies, with the complicity of stupid open border Republicans. In another time we’d call this TREASON!!!
Just part of our devolution back to a feudal society….
And the fuckstick swoops and poops yet again. Dear Joe, when the courts and LEO’s in this country give more rights to the criminals than the public and victims, do you not think that SOME backlash is inevitable?
Or did you fall asleep they day they taught Heinlein in school–you know, “An armed society is a polite society?” Nothing is more basic than the right to defend one’s life and property, and frankly, if the police in Modesto are anything like those here, it’s a goddamn miracle to get them away from their Dunkin Donuts and actually MAKE a call. Courts have already decided that LEA’s are not proactive agencies–so who then does it fall to in order to prevent crime from occurring in the first place?
“An armed society is a polite society.” Another one of those multidinous, unproveable right-wing truisms you seem to swallow hook, line, and sinker.
