Michael Moore and Rachel Maddow. You know some idiot bullshit is going to come from those two being in the same room. Moore first asks why people in Tucson would need to own guns since gun crimes and crime in general is so low there. Maybe a better question is “why would criminals want to live in Tucson when everyone has a gun?”
Then he goes on to ask all of us what we think the criminal that we picture in our heads looks like. Of course, we’re all supposed to answer that it’s a huge black guy. So we’re racist for owning guns.
Well, since we have only two black women in my town (and I’m friends with half of them) my imaginary criminal is one of the pony-tailed bald white guys who did some carpentry on the corporate retreat. One of the guys who tried to get me tell him about the secret alien technology I’m developing. Yeah, no shit, that’s the conversation I had recently with a local – and I immediately went out and bought another gun, just for that guy.
Moore goes on to say that we own millions of guns but that there are only about 300 home invasions every year, so why so many guns? Now I hang with a different crowd than Moore, who probably has people who provide an armed response to his alarm system. And as far as I know, home invaders, even though there’s only a few hundred of them, don’t call ahead so I can get the publicly-provided armed response on sight in time, and I guess there’s no public schedule for home invasions, so we really don’t know where they’re going to strike next.
And my alarm just announces which way the criminals are coming from in the house, and since I’m the only armed response in my house, my alarm becomes an audio aiming stake. And I’m determined not to be the first guy in my neighborhood to be kidnapped by a meth-head who thinks I know some alien technology recipe for moonshine.
This is the man who the Left listens to for foreign and domestic policy. I’ve had more intellectual discussions with my three-year-old grandson who is quick to punctuate discussions with “I like Transformers”.
He speaks of a few hundred home invasion murders annually. How many more does he think there would be if the other hundreds of thousands of victims weren’t armed and able to defend their homes?
Moore just phoned this argument in. How many murders during home invasions are acceptable to Moore? What is the value of one life to Moore (not his own, or his family’s)?

My lovely little liberal burg has cultivated quite a distaste for firearms. Our state’s recent transition to shall-issue has prompted the usual tired outcry from people who are afraid of inanimate objects. I must confess, I love arguing about gun control, because I have yet to meet a passionate advocate of it whose argument didn’t boil down to easily demonstrable misconceptions, factual distortions, or cliched ruminations about the Wild West. It’s so easy to make staunch gun control advocates look stupid, fearful, or misinformed; they practically do it themselves. Levy’s piece is fact heavy, replete with legal precedent, statistical evidence, and historical lessons. Sarah’s is an empty appeal to emotion, with not one fact to support her position. That’s what gun control advocates want; governance by emotion. The abject ridiculousness of the anti-gun position has been thoroughly demonstrated in the nationwide drop in violent crime that has been nearly consistent ever since concealed carry laws began to be liberalized 25 years ago. At the time (and, inexplicably, still), nannies everywhere sobbed and warned of the pending bloodbath that permitting the law abiding to go armed would surely bring to fruition. Any self-respecting individual who values the truth now cannot escape the fact that their doomsday prophecies were all for nought. I can’t say if CCW is the cause of the drop in crime, and I don’t care. But I can say that gun control advocates were completely full of shit, and the facts support me.
300 a year? In Massivetwoshits alone there’re probably more than that. We’ve had 3-4 cases in NH within the past couple of weeks which have made the news.

Asides the fun of watching those two jerk each other off on camera Moore brought up a good point (stay with me here) “most of these guns are owned by people in the safe parts of town or rural areas. Places where there are very few murders.” Also “Everyone is packing there yet they all said “we have a low gun murder rate here in Tuscon”. Kinda sounds like he’s proving the gun proponents points there. Areas with guns=safe. Everyone packing=Low gun murder rate.
Now onto the Big Scary Black Man being my fear. Of all the Jackassery this man spouts that has to rank amongst the winners. Have you ever gone to the gun range and seen those silly targets with the people on there? One example is, guy holding the chesty woman hostage whilst pointing the pistol at you. There are a few variants and not once have I ever seen Big Scary Black Man as a target. Not once. Hell do a google search and see if you can find one. I can’t. Now if our collective fear was that wouldn’t our targets reflect it?

Ok, ROS, I’ll give that one and raise this; how many home invasion murders were stopped because the intended victim was armed? Fatass doesn’t get into that and I doubt that anyone keeps the positive statistics. The NRA magazine American Rifleman has a section called “the armed citizen” that details stories every month on the positive stories where the intended victim is armed and the bad guy(s) find that out the very hard way. Maybe someone could compile those statistics and compare them to fatasses 500 die with a third killed by their own gun. Of course, when digging into it, I’m sure that a person will find that fatass is just throwing statistics out with no correlating data.
Mike Moore is a dumb ass. I’ve been a cop for 32 years and the real honest to God bad guys have explained to me over the years that they look for the “soft target”. They don’t want to hit the house or victim that might be armed…they go after the un-armed and the weak.
The reason the violent crime rates are lower where people can freely be armed is because the bad guys are really cowards.

You’re right about “soft targets.” I knew a guy in Upstate New York who used to fly a Marine Corps flag in the yard and leave a pair of size 14 combat boots on his front porch. (He was never a Marine.) He never locked his front door.
Oddly enough, his house was never burglarized.
Michael Moore is fond of this kind of logic. In his anti-2nd Amendment film “Bowling for Columbine”, he made much the same argument.
He noted that gun ownership increased during the 1990’s, while at the same time crime was plummeting. His conclusion? Paranoid people were buying guns for no rational reason. Obviously people were just twitchy about nonexistent violence, trying to protect themselves from the boogeyman who exists only in their heads. (A black boogeyman, I’m sure.)
A rational person might draw the opposite conclusion. People bought guns and crime went down. Guns don’t cause crimes. If anything, they serve as a deterrent.
And again, Michael inserts race into the issue where it really doesn’t belong. Gun owner = racist. Who can argue with that? Only a racist, I’m sure.
I have the misfortune of having to admit that I have met fat Mike Moore. The Michigan Manatee moved into my old home town. Immediately raised the odor in the evenings, dropped the property values in Manford Heights, and in general made a mess of a good conservative, albeit Democrat, town. At is base, moore’s argument is about the need for guns.
He doesn’t think people need them.
I don’t think he needs the freedom to assemble for peacable purpose–after all, how many people need to assemble for a peacable putpose? Shouldn’t we consider limiting that to a reasonable number?
He is advocating placing limits on a specific, enumerated right of the people. He thinks in terms of providing for the people what they need. He has no qualms about limiting the 2A, so why should he mind reconsidering the 1A, or even the 13th? Maybe we could go to just considering how many slaves we really need, instead of letting people have as many as they want.
By the way, how many big macs does michael moore need?

I read one of the positive stories in AR where 2 perps broke into a house where an 11 yr old girl was home. She ran up to her room and the first scumbag followed. Well, the next sound was of him getting his junk blown against the wall (police say he died of massive lower abdominal trauma), well scumbag #2 goes upstairs to investigate (yeah, how smart is that? You just see your buddy’s junk get splattered, but you’re gonna go up there?) and he made it out the front door before falling over dead.
It turns out that the 11 yr. old girl was the national jr. skeet shooting champion and the 2 dead guys were illegals that had robbed several houses in her neighborhood in the previous days. When they busted in, she ran up to her room and grabbed her shotgun and got into a defensive one knee firing position.
I shudder to think what might have happened to that sweet little girl had she not been who she was. That’s the kind of story you won’t hear from fatass or Bloomberg.
Rather late in the thread for this, but HEY, JOE–these are also some of the “Second Amendment Remedies” of which we speak. So why aren’t you pissing and moaning about these as well? I mean, isn’t your vaunted judicial system working so well?
Actually, it isn’t. A number of police departments take the blind eye approach to crime and being proactive. Case in point, I’ve had drunk drivers crash into shit in my neighborhood, but call 911 or the non-emergency line to tell the local donut suckers about it, giving them the car, license plate, location, where they were heading, description of the driver, only to be told to “come to the station and make a report.” Fuck them actually having to, oh, I dunno, DO SOME WORK. And their mentality is no report = no crime.
This kind of laziness is pervasive throughout the judicial system, and then they wonder why we have no faith in it.

That dovetails into a current scandal in Nashville. It seems the most recently departed Chief of Police massaged the numbers to show an ever declining crime rate.
In one of the more outrageous means used was that rapes were counted as “reported incidents.”
The city of Nashville still doesn’t know how deep this rabbithole goes, only that misreporting or underreporting crime was a routine that lasted years.

There is a story out of Palmville TX about an 11 yr old boy that shot one intruder in his home. I tried to find anything about the 11 yr old girl story (which goes back to about 2007), but could find nothing to substantiate it.
