Thanks to Blackfive for providing the evidence in support of Mr. Wrights beliefs.

  1. It would be nice if, once in a while, the credentialed media would feature great photos like the above, and show the good work our troops are doing.

  2. More on the “Iraq Paper Scissors” event here:

Power with art: Iraq vets come to Island
    By Brooks Robards
    ?Published: July 17, 2008

Nearly two dozen Iraq War veterans will arrive on the Island from the Northeast and Seattle, Wash., on Monday, July 21, for a remarkable event. They will spend the week involved in papermaking and writing workshops. The veterans will bring their uniforms with them, which, after being torn or cut up, will be transformed into paper to be used to record some of their experiences, in art and/or words. That process — the Combat Papers Project – has become a healing ritual, a way to help put demons to rest. It has also become a movement spreading around the country, and next week it comes to the Vineyard.

The week culminates Saturday, July 26, at an event called Speak Truth to Power at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury where the vets will exhibit artwork, poetry, and paper they have handmade from their uniforms. “Iraq Paper Scissors,” a film in progress by documentary filmmaker Sara Nesson about the Combat Papers Project, will be shown at 5 and 7 pm. There will also be music and a silent auction to raise funds for the completion of Ms. Nesson’s film, which will be shown at future festivals and on TV.

  3. Jesus, more crap getting spewed from the assorted morons in the IVAW. I’m so glad they’re EX-military embarrassments.

  4. Jane, they’re not all ex-military…YET!!!!

Some of them, unfortunately, are STILL on active duty poisoning their units and and brainwashing as many Soldiers as they can who are gullible enough to fall for their gutless, hate-filled, UN-AMERICAN, UNPATRIOTIC, anti-military extremism!

  5. Let us not forget Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt and his care of an Iraqi Child.

The more I see of IVAW the more I know of how over the edge the left is.

TSO: I’m an emotional guy to begin with, and that picture breaks me up every time. As for the left, I think they just exagerate things to be more dramatic. Does this guy TRULY believe that? I mean really. What about the Navy guys that arrived to help with the tsunami relief? Were they the sign of death, chaos and destruction, or were they the sign that things might turn out okay? It’s just perplexing.

  6. It looks like the Martha’s Vineyard Times is now blocking comments on that article. Apparently, Jonn was the last dissenting voice to get through.

  7. TSO, we could go on all day about the great men and women who serve with honor and have great compassion for those they are called to protect. But to report on something good going on with the military seems to be relegated to Memorial and Veterans days (which Obama can’t tell the difference between) in the MSM today.
I am lucky to live in an area that still stands, put their hands over their hearts and takes off their hats, when the flag comes down the street in a parade. Where a man in uniform still stands for freedom and protection, not as a baby killer or a dark destroyer.
I am not going all moms’ apple pie on you but where has the respect gone in the media? In our colleges?
I am not too far from ECU and UNC. UNC might as well be called Berkley east, it has gotten so bad. ECU is on the fast track to do the same. I attended ECU for a semester for some classes and was astounded at the viciousness of the left wing groups on the campus. I saw them hang a soldier in effigy to protest the war in Iraq. I asked one of the young men to explain to me why they hung the soldier? He stated that it was the soldier’s who were, and can’t make this up, killing for the oil companies.
I was just floored. OIL? I couldn’t remember the last time I saw “Property of Mobile Oil” written on one of the planes or tanks. I had never sworn to follow the orders of the office of the President of Exxon. When I brought this to his attention he just started to shout crap about “Blood for Oil”.
It was at that point I had one of those moments when you image something horrible to happen to the idiot ( I know there goes any chance of me getting a gun now). It was then realized that it was his right and that I had been there to make sure he had that right. Good for him. If he wanted to act like a complete ass, just freaking let him.
To my fellow vets who have served with honor I say Thanks.

TSO: I went to UMASS for a year, I know the feeling. But I am the mom and apple pie guy. I get choked up all the time seeing the flag and stuff. And God Forbid you are around me wearing a hat during the national anthem at a ball park unless you are saluting (which I am still not yet comfortable with.)
