President Trump reportedly is trying to get Bagram back

President Donald Trump participated in a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. One of the announcements that Trump made was his desire to get Bagram Airfield back from the Taliban. Trump listed, as one of his reasons, China’s making nuclear bombs in a part of China not far from Afghanistan. The Taliban appeared to be willing to talk about this possibility as they desire normalized diplomatic relationships with the US.

From Breitbart:

“We’re trying to get it back, by the way, okay? That could be a little breaking news. We’re trying to get it back because they need things from us. We want that base back,” Trump said.

“But one of the reasons we want the base is, as you know, it’s an hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons. So a lot of things are happening,” he added.

In July 2021, the Biden administration handed Bagram over to the Afghan government in the lead-up to the calamitous U.S. military withdrawal. The U.S. had occupied the base for almost 20 years throughout the Afghanistan War when U.S. forces suddenly withdrew at night, unbeknownst to Afghan military officials. Looters subsequently ransacked the base.

Trump’s remarks come days after a White House delegation, led by Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler, met over the weekend with senior Taliban leaders, who expressed a desire for normalized relations, Afghan media reported.

“After the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan, there are no serious obstacles in bilateral relations that cannot be resolved,” Zakir Jalali, who Afghanistan’s Tolo News identifies as a “third political director” in the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry, said on Sunday.

“The fact that the U.S. delegation has opened its doors to Kabul marks a new and more serious phase in continuing negotiations,” Jalali said per the outlets.

Longtime American representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad accompanied Boehler on the trip. The American delegation focused on negotiating the release of Americans who are stuck under the rule of jihadists, per multiple reports.

  1. Not a bad idea under certain conditions. The benefit could be two-fold. The proximity to China, and keeping an eye on the Taliban. I wouldn’t trust any of those mother f-ckers as far as I could throw one, but…

      1. They will be close alright. The shelling will begin almost immediately.

Are they really going to let the last 15 Gitmo detainees loose?

    1. Nah. I think it is a bad idea.
The moment the Drats regain control of the White House, they will either face mission creep or disorganized withdrawal.
I don’t trust any Democrat, not even as a school crossing guard, let alone with a base deep into enemy territory and that close to the Chicoms.

  2. Wait. We are going back to Afghanistan?
Yaay…Another opportunity to prove ourselves in combat and give the new generation some hands-on experience.

I was at Fort Knox during the summer, and I had never seen that many NCOs without CIBs!

  3. Do I get cross thread points for my rhyming history?

    Milley and Joe milled around,
At the mill, they spun and twirled,
    Pulled out, chaos swirled!

  4. umm, who is going to man the base when we “get it back”? I understand the importance, but …

The only way I’d get behind this idea will be with the condition that one hair on an American head gets ruffled, we do what we should have done in 2001.

  5. So after almost twenty years of spending American blood and treasure to defeat the evil Taliban terrorists it seems the Taliban aren’t so evil after all.

  6. PCS to Bagram. Here’s your orders. It’s close to China? Literally the first thing killed in a war with China will be something an hour away from their nuclear capability. How about just build something that flies faster and is both stealthy and unmanned?
