Venezuelan fighter jets provocatively flew near US Navy ship

The US Department of Defense is accusing Venezuela of flying two of its fighter aircraft near a U.S. Navy ship. The Department of Defense is describing this as a highly provocative move in international waters aimed at interfering with America’s counter narcotic terror operations. On a post on X, the U.S. warned the cartel running Venezuela not to abstract US operations related to counter narcotics.

From Fox News:

“Today, two Maduro regime military aircraft flew near a U.S. Navy vessel in international waters. This highly provocative move was designed to interfere with our counter narco-terror operations,” the Defense Department wrote in a statement posted to X. “The cartel running Venezuela is strongly advised not to pursue any further effort to obstruct, deter or interfere with counter-narcotics and counter-terror operations carried out by the U.S. military.”

On Friday, Reuters reported that the U.S. 10 F-35 fighter jets to a Puerto Rico airfield as part of its efforts to combat drug cartels.

Venezuela’s actions followed an unprecedented U.S. Marine strike Tuesday on a cartel-operated vessel. The Trump administration later said 11 members of the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua — a U.S.-designated terrorist organization — were killed in the strike.

Prior to the strike on Tuesday, U.S. efforts to counter cartels and international gang organizations had taken place largely in the form of seizure and apprehension operations. The strike, however, appeared to signal that the Trump administration was shifting towards a tougher new approach.

On Thursday, during a visit to Ecuador, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that two gangs were being reclassified as foreign terrorist organizations. Rubio also slammed the Venezuelan leadership’s involvement in the drug trade. He went on to condemn Nicolás Maduro as an “indicted drug trafficker” and a “fugitive of American justice.”

  1. The Venezuelans will learn at their own expense, if one bites Uncle Sam eventually Uncle Sam bites back. Gone (I hope) are the days when all Uncle Sam does is shout, “Stop that or I shall have to shout stop that again!”

      1. Since Obama found out “red lines” get ignored, he told Biden to use the always-popular “don’t” as that was shorter and, therefore, easier for our enemies to ignore.

            1. May I wonder if that song is on repeat in the post mortem mind of a certain dog tying, TSA agenting, empty tank flying, barrister from some years past?

              1. He was never a barrister, as they try cases to juries. Except for his own lawsuits, Bernasty only did admin hearings at Social Security.

    1. Our normal panel of experts of Saddam Hussein, Mohammed Adidid, Manuel Noriega, Hudson Austin and Aristide agreed that even though the boat was on its way to pick up Greta Thuneberger and drop off relief supplies of flour to Gaza, it was best not to argue about it.

The Taliban however disagreed. They said you could win this one if you are willing to wait out the Russians for ten years and the US for twenty years.

  2. Maybe next time the Navy should fire a few rounds “provocatively near” the Venezuelan jets.
It wouldn’t surprise me to find out later that the jets flew INTO the rounds, instead of swerving to avoid them.

  3. I’m imagining seeing a couple of bad-ass Navy fighter jets going a loft, flying in front of the Venezuelan girls and dispersing a cloud of pink paint for them to fly through and take home as customized trophies for Maduro and his daughters.

  4. You know Burke-class destroyers have the Aegis System that tracked those jets probably as soon as they lifted-off. Their Air Force doesn’t want to come in “hot” unless they got their wills & insurance forms filled out properly.

    1. Ah, the original documentary. Guns on Top! Back then when you took a picture your phone printed out a hard copy. Remote file transfer was a bitch though, it could take days.

  5. Venezuela is a sad story. Considering how wealthy it used to be.
    Ain’t Socialism grand?

      1. In its heyday, It’s per capita GDP neared that of the US.
Now they are eating zoo animals and garbage.
How do some idiots still think Communism is a good idea??
I guess it looks pretty good from your parent’s safe suburban home.

        1. In a way they were a casualty of the Cold War. When Regan drove down the price of oil to defeat communism in the 80s their whole economy went in the crapper with it. They should have bounced back in the 90s but poor economic policy and Chavez kept stirring up shit till he was able to seize power.

    1. Ain’t nothing like forcing poverty and misery upon a population while calling it “equality”, and many an idiot college professor as well as their fool minions still say that socialism/communism will actually work if it’s tried just one more time!

    2. When we lived there (’59-’60) it was a nice place overall. Had its share of problems but was improving.
      Meduro canned all that.

      1. It can never be “done correctly” because the entire concept is a scam. Invariably, the dictatorship of the proletariat is its end stage which is a totalitarian police state once the Communist sole political party consolidates it power by killing or imprisoning anyone who objects to this monstrosity.

  6. Something just occurred to me. Venezuela’s actions in the wake of those POS Narco terrorists getting yeeted proves that they are an entity of the socialist government. No matter what Google ai would say.
