New Flotilla to Gaza

Yet another set of boats and ships are heading to Gaza to try and break the Israeli closure… this could get silly.

UPDATE Monday 1 September – the ‘intrepid’ sailors have returned to Barcelona due to heavy seas.

Climate campaigner Greta Thunberg joined a flotilla of boats loaded with aid for Gaza as they set sail from Barcelona on Sunday, aiming to break Israel’s naval blockade and deliver food and other humanitarian supplies to the shattered enclave.

Israel has argued that the blockade imposed in 2007 is necessary to stop weapons being smuggled to the Hamas militant group and has described other attempts to break it – including Thunberg’s in June – as a propaganda stunt in support of Hamas.

“This is a mission to challenge the extremely violent, business-as-usual international system that is failing to uphold international law,” Thunberg told the crowd before the departure of the flotilla of dozens of boats, set to be joined by more along the way.

And when they try to deliver food in Gaza what happens – Hamas attacks and loots the food convoys. For once she is right – that violence needs to stop.

Organisers of the flotilla blamed global leaders for failing to put pressure on Israel to allow aid to pass after a global hunger monitor said part of Gaza was suffering from famine.

The flotilla will be joined by more boats setting off from Greece, Italy and Tunisia, said Yasemin Acar, a member of the steering committee.

In the northwestern Italian port of Genoa, some 250 metric tons of food for Gaza has been collected from local groups and residents, organisers said.

Some of the aid was loaded on board boats setting off from Genoa on Sunday, while the rest will be sent to the Sicilian port of Catania, from where more vessels are due to leave for Gaza on Sept. 4.

Sounds well organized. Do I hear Farsi accents in the background? Or merely Hungarian?

New game: Israel stops the flotilla to search the ships and boats. Any resistance or any weapons found, they sink the boat. How many would arrive in Gaza? Who would distribute the supplies and make sure it went to the starving PEOPLE, not Hamas? Maybe Israel needs to just sit back, pop a few beers, and watch…

Had a bizarre thought… Hamas has honeycombed pretty much everywhere it goes with tunnels. I read where they found a bunch of Hezbollah tunnels in southern Lebanon as well. All that tunneling… makes you wonder if radical Islamists are the predecessors to the Morlocks?

  1. I was just watching the video of the drug cartel boat getting
lit up and then read this story.
And that photo of Greta is scary.

      1. C’mon man, why do you people post such things at lunch time? I haven’t blown chow that much since my first Med Cruise when I got drunk in Naples and got back on the ship that night (anchored or not it was rocking pretty good)!

      2. She looks ridden hard, put away wet and is angry about it. With those looks and anger issues, I’m surprised anybody wanted to be first. Some saying about something having no conscious blah blah blah.

          1. Remember that guy in your unit that would jump on the low hanging fruit because he had no standards and any port in a storm? Even that guy might take a breath.

  2. If the Israeli’s arrest her again, they should prosecute and lock her up instead of deporting her like they did the last time.

    1. They may not release her immediately just to show her that her opinions don’t matter outside the U.S. The 3rd time, should that become necessary, there will certainly be an example made of her. My opinion only, but Israel has bigger concerns than a whiny little scrunt, and will sideline her to get her and her “crew” out of their hair.

  3. Why don’t they just save time and effort and wire the money of what they would pay for relief supplies directly to Hamas leadership in Qatar?

I mentioned a couple of times that when I was on the boarding and salvage Party, I was issued an M-1 Carbine and I asked one of the gunners Mates when do I have to use it and all he said was that if any crew member aboard the boarded ship gives you a ration of shit, then just shoot him.

    1. Not in this way. If I am the US and I blockade the state of Oregon, for whatever reason, and you try to bust through with a supply ship captained by an Autistic child from Holland carrying sacks of bugs for the people of Portland eat, to help the little darlings, that would be hostile.

      1. Well, maybe what they’re doing can be considered assesory to blockade running. Israeli ships get tied up dealing with these morons, potentially allowing a gap in the blockade for other ships with more nefarious cargo through. Many actions have consequences.

    2. Yes, breaking or attempting to breach a blockade is against international maritime law.

Israel could decide to use all necessary force to prevent it.

      1. 76% of the countries in the world recognize Palestine as a separate state. They might therefore consider the Israeli blockade to be illegal.

        1. 76% of countries recognize the Palestinian Authority as the official government of “Palestine,” still doubling down on that two state solution nonsense. The thing is that, when and if Israel pulls out of the occupied territories in the West Bank and Gaza, Hamas can and most likely will take back control of “Palestine.” The Palestinian Authority has about as much authority and gravitas as the Federal Government of Somalia.

In short, I’m calling those who recognize the PA as idiots and find the notion that the Israeli blockade being illegal ludicrous due to the fact that PA lacks sovereignty over both their people and their “territorial waters.”

    1. If she survived the experience it may just change her mind on a number of different issues.

It may actually do her some good. If she survived

    1. Dat’s a good one. Did you come up with that, or did you steal after getting your degree from Manhattan’s New School?
