  1. The irony of the George J and Archie B meme is that both men played parts that were 180 degrees from their true personalities. Sherman Hemsley was a very quiet, reserved person that kept his private life, private (including his politics) and Carroll O’Conner was the epitome of a very liberal, yellow dog democrat in real life. Shows their “skills” of being “actors”. They both did serve their Country, Hemsley in the US Air Force and O’Conner in the Merchant Marine Service so there is that.

I met Mr. O’Conner, and many of the cast of the “In The Heat of The Night” show when my travels brought me to Covington Georgia and the hotel I stayed in was the home away from home for many of them during the filming season. Nice enough guy…for a democrat on a one on one basis, but to him…co-operation was doing things his way and being damn quick about. The hotel lounge was usually packed on Thursday evenings with all the local Ms Thangs hoping to get a glimpse of “Bubba” or the other cast members. Good Times!

  2. Bad product design… be thankful it didn’t come with a coupon for Jergen’s lotion.
