Senator Cory Booker sets filibuster record after previously criticizing the filibuster

Senator Cory Booker, Democrat from New Jersey, described the filibuster as an abuse of power back in 2022. Recently, however, Booker set the record for the longest speech on the Senate floor. During his record-breaking speech, Booker took aim at a range of President Donald Trump’s initiatives.

From Fox News:

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., condemned the Senate filibuster as an “abuse of power” in 2022, years before his party praised him for launching the “longest filibuster in U.S. Senate history” on Tuesday.

Booker set the record for longest Senate floor speech at 25 hours and 5 minutes after starting to speak at 7 p.m. on Monday.

The filibuster has been a deeply controversial tool for the Senate in recent years, with many Democrats condemning the practice during President Joe Biden’s administration as Republicans used it to foil his agenda.

“The filibuster has been abused to stop reforms supported by the vast majority of Americans–from background checks to protecting the right to vote. We must stop this abuse of power,” Booker wrote on X in January 2022.

Booker’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

  1. IIRC, the previous filibuster record holder was a racists demonrat and now the new record holder is a racists demonrat. “The more things change…the more they remain the same.” Odd, that…huh?

    PHUQUE HEEM!

    1. I saw some of it. He was just like any other coked up street person so completely normal day for Booker.

        1. Eyes are an excellent indicator of state of intoxication. He appeared to be on a stimulant of some kind.

    1. I knew this girl in the 70’s that could talk for days without sleep.
Work all day on the assembly line, party all night and show
up the next day still yapping about something.
      Good worker though…

        1. Was the George Thorogood “You Talk Too Much” a cover of that?
Also see “I Wanna Talk About Me” by the late great Toby Keith.

  2. I thought voting was done for the day before he started speaking.

    What, exactly, was filibustered?

  3. The only reason I can fathom out for this big grandstand play was he is positioning himself in the party as the next black candidate in 28. There certainly wasn’t a viable objective for the stunt that I can see otherwise.

  4. With no pending vote, this was not a filibuster. It does, however get him name recognition so he can be the designated Black squad candidate in ’28.
