Playboy Returns to Fit Females, Nudity, After Woke Rebrand Fail

Alana Mastrangelo

Playboy is reportedly returning to its roots after going through a failed woke rebrand that included pop star Lizzo on a centerfold, a transgender Playmate, and a ban on nudity.

After a five-year hiatus, the magazine was relaunched this month with a new issue including a fully nude centerfold featuring Guess model Gillian Nation — a fit, biological female — who has been crowned Playboy‘s 2025 Playmate of the Year, according to a report by Daily Mail.

The move to revert back to its original content comes after the magazine announced in 2017 — just one month after the death of Playboy‘s founder Hugh Hefner — that French model Ines Rau would be its first transgender Playmate.

“It’s the right thing to do. We’re at a moment where gender roles are evolving,” Hefner’s then-26-year-old son Cooper said at the time of the decision to feature men in Playboy.

Notably, 2017 was also dominated by the #MeToo movement, followed by woke “cancel culture” running rampant.

Cooper ended up leaving the company in 2019, after which an editorial team of two women and a gay man took over with a mission to make Playboy more progressive, Daily Mail noted.

    1. For me, The Playmate of the Year is Patti McGuire. Here’s a blast from the past and safe for work too…

        1. Green Thumb, HT3, and rgr1480,

MarineDad61 met this one a few times as a teenager.
She lied to a lot of young men and boys back then.
Her Playboy bio birth year is also a lie, 1961, not 1964.
Dropped out of college, and turned into a whack a doodle.
Straight for California and posing / modeling.
          Then she turned up as
November 1988 Playmate of the Month (at age 27, not 24).

And it only got worse after that.

    1. The old bait and switch. The nice new Vette outside the dealership was just a convenient spot to put the leaky ’94 Ford Mustang price tag.

        1. 1980’s vintage Jaguar. Most of the original parts are long gone, can’t make it up River Road without belching noxious fumes, leans to one side, and you can’t fit it into a standard parking spot.

    1. Yeah.

      Guilty here.

After salivating a few minutes, I actually read the article. Quite informative, actually.

    2. I didn’t know they wrote articles. Of course I haven’t seen a playboy magazine since around 1980.

      1. Two words, Penthouse Letters…. ’nuff said. Maybe I’m a little sick… I don’t know.

  1. I’ve always dismissed “trigger warnings” as a leftist, weak-minded crutch for milquetoast libs. Right up to the point where I scrolled down and saw that yak-inducing beast.

I now understand the need. I may have to cleanse my eyes with someone more visually appealing.

      1. There’s two possible reasons for that, and I REALLY don’t want to know which one it was…

  2. Before playboy went south, we had playboy and other girly magazines aboard the LPH-3. inside the second deck
chill water space we had chilled water tanks against the bulkhead and on top of one of the tanks, we had a fart sack on top with Playboy and other girly magazines. Great space to skate and grab some nooners.

  3. I always read it for the articles. Used to be some really knowledgeable ones on everything from Audiophile stuff, cigars, whiskey, photography, cars, and occasionally music and tools.

I remember when the PX used to carry an assortment. Someone mentioned a phrase I used to here in my younger days of endless NTC/JRTC/Hohenfels (JMRTC) rotations… “it’s nudy magazine day!” Made me nostalgic.

  4. Who and where is the guy who would likely say he’d still hit that? I forget who that was.

  5. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, Hack Stone put a lot of time at the “undisclosed location” that we all know. Since Hack Stone was the only Marine on his team, he had the Marine Berthing area all to himself. 40 empty racks, maybe more. So Hack walked around, checking things out, and found a couple of 1960’s vintage Playboy issues. Not much as far as seeing Kelly’s Canyon, but the the standard strategically placed hand over the goodies, and every girl posing must have been sporting 8 pounds of Aqua Net.

        1. OMG. Now I feel even sicker having seen that picture. I’ve got to get out to a farm and look at real pigs now. Hopefully it will bring back my sanity!

  6. I have always believed that women (real[biological] women) should be appreciated for their intelligence, grace and beauty! AND, for being the mothers of the human race!

And I appreciated playboy from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and up to 17, for letting me appreciate them all the more! I’m glad that they finally understand!

    Welcome home, old friend!!

  7. “…lead us not unto temptation
    but deliver us from evil…”

Hefner will be realizing the consequences of his life in eternity.

Sometimes I wonder if Adam and Eve are nothing more than a literary device to compare and contrast God with Lucifer.

OTOH, God never said of Lucifer, “…this is my Son…”

Therefrom have come thousands of books, songs, lies and the reason why Truth seems to be so “variable”.

Faith is all we have. Eve wanted truth. She received a lie.

  8. They actually had a shemale ‘ Playmate ‘??
I’m sure no body wanted to play with that…thing.
Outside Middle East/Central Asia that is

  9. Former Marine sergeant, Bambi Lin Finney, posed in Playboy as part of the Women in Uniform shoot back in ’79 sometime. Her pictorial was only semi-nude initially, but it was enough to get her booted out of the Corps w/ an honorable discharge. After her discharge full nude pictorials were featured in a later issue. Very nice-looking gal. Yeah, the carpet matched the drapes 😁. According to a newspaper article covering her story, she was separated in Feb 1980 so it’s been 45 years.
