US military aircraft airdrop thousands of meals into Gaza in emergency humanitarian aid operation

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. military C-130 cargo planes dropped food in pallets over Gaza on Saturday in the opening stage of an emergency humanitarian assistance authorized by President Joe Biden after more than 100 Palestinians who had surged to pull goods off an aid convoy were killed during a chaotic encounter with Israeli troops.

Three planes from Air Forces Central dropped 66 bundles containing about 38,000 meals into Gaza at 8:30 a.m. EST (3:30 p.m. local). The bundles were dropped in southwest Gaza, on the beach along the territory’s Mediterranean coast. The airdrop was coordinated with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, which said it had two food airdrops Saturday in northern Gaza and has conducted several rounds in recent months.

“The amount of aid flowing to Gaza is not nearly enough and we will continue to pull out every stop we can to get more aid in,” President Joe Biden said Saturday in a post on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

  2. I propose a solution to the hostage crisis that would benefit both the Israelis and the US. I propose we swap biden and harris for the remaining hostages. By the time hamas has had them for a couple weeks I am sure they would be begging to surrender.

We had C Rats on board the LPH 3 and in the NYSARNG when I was in 1976-1977 and for awhile our CO was the NG Captain TAH had on the site who was involved in something as which I can’t remember. I looked at my DD214 but he was gone when I left the NG. I sent Jonn my paperwork confirming where the Armory was out in Suffok County Long Island NY. Which matched the one on TAH.

    3. Those HA halal rations taste considerably better than MREs. They don’t have the same nutritional content, but a handful of bacon added on top makes up a lot of the difference.

    3. I’m sure Yehiya Sinwar, Gaza head of Hamas currently in hiding, will suggest future drop zone locations to best resupply those (underground armed individuals) in need.

        1. How about peaches, packed in their own juices, still in the cans as they’re shoved out of the plane. Would it be the load masters fault if the pallet they were packed on fell apart as it made its way to the drop zone?

          Maybe a scratch and dent drop, or something that had no labels. Kind of like a surprise meal.

          1. I had a little excursion to Somalia in 1993, my TACSAT team supported Belgian forces in Kismayo. Belgian rations are in a box, a full day’s ration, most of it canned. You’d see someone on the side of the road, hand up, begging for food, and someone would toss a ration box from a truck… at convoy speed…

    3. Sausage with breakfast syrup MRE. That thing was nothing but protein and sugar. I ate one of those prior to “Nick at Nite” in Basic and I was bouncing off the walls of the trench!🤣

      2. Do they have to use parachutes to drop those pallets? I mean, we generally make some pretty tough pallets….they wouldn’t break when the hit the ground….

    2. They need to make sure at least one of those C-130’s is of the AC-130J variety. You’ll love the name. It’s replacing some of the existing SPECTRE gunships. Google it if you dare, the pattern is full…

  10. Can’t wait for the first report of pallets burning in and causing “civilian” casualties and us putting ourselves on the hook for millions in reparations.
    Call me crazy but why don’t we do this over the beach? Phase one: deliver rations to beach. Phase two: withdraw. Phase thee: drop a series of JDAMs on the rations because we already know it’s Hamas who will be picking them up (and we might as well get some BDA for the rations we are already wasting).

    1. There was a similar issue with that post Desert Storm. Refugees (Kurds IIRC) were running to pallets during descent and getting crushed. Quick remedy was to fill big ass open-top boxes with humanitarian MRE’s (yeah, I know), and kick the whole thing off the ramp from altitude. It’s raining MRE’s.

    2. If they can’t figure out that a mechanical bird I’d dropping shit from the sky is going to hurt worse than a feathered bird dropping shit, the deserve what they get.

      The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

      1. Yeah, some of ’em got killed when a parachute failed to open and a case of MREs burned in– why the “humanitarian pier” is now a thing.

  12. Imagine the DC office doing this during WW2 or having cease fires for the civilians or Generals that had to be voted on to be a General, and Generals who acted like the present day President Trump got voted out, I’d be speaking German.

  14. Are they using the GPS guided pallet system that we’ve been testing for a while. It allows higher altitude drops with better accuracy.

  17. In other news, the UN report was just released. Hamas is guilty of war crimes for systematically raping Israeli women in Oct 7th. Further, proof of hostages being raped and tortured has been “verified” by the UN. “It is unknown if these rapes and tortures are continuing”.

    2. The people that claim 10-7 was faked astound me. I guess it’s easier than admitting you’re on the side of rapists and murderers?

        1. They claim that the whole thing was a Mossad op, that we can’t know for sure that that it’s Hamas in all those videos.

          Yeah, the theory is dumber than a box of rocks, but I find it helpful to know what the other side is thinking.
