Policy update allows Sailors to put their hands in their pockets

The Navy rolled out a revised policy for uniform and appearance. The bucket cover returns… For all Sailors. Sailors can put their hands in their pockets. If Sailors can properly render honors and courtesies, and they don’t compromise safety, Sailors can have their hands in their pockets. Sailors are also allowed to have false eyelashes, provided they do not exceed 14 millimeters from the eyelid.

The policy update rescinds restrictions barring sailors from placing their hands in their pockets, which the Navy previously claimed is “inappropriate and detracts from a professional military appearance.”

“Sailors are authorized to have hands in their pockets when doing so does not compromise safety nor prohibit the proper rendering of honors and courtesies,” the NAVADMIN said.

The Navy retired the female combination cover, known as the bucket cover, in 2018. But the service is now permitting all sailors to wear the cover with service dress and dinner dress uniforms, according to a new naval administrative message, or NAVADMIN, released Wednesday. Female officers and chief petty officers are also authorized to wear the cover with service khaki and summer white uniforms.

Sailors cannot purchase the bucket cover from Navy Exchange uniform stores, and must instead privately obtain one for wear.

Additionally, the Navy is allowing female sailors to wear the tiara as an optional uniform component when wearing dinner dress blue and white jacket uniforms. Sailors may purchase the tiara from the Navy Exchange online as a special order item.

  6. Certainly glad that these vital issues to National Security have been settled. Now, if Big Navy could keep their ships from running into one another, or other objects, that would be great. Can one still call the iconic Sailor Cover a “Dixie Cup”?

  7. Interesting that all these changes seem geared towards making women happy. Fake eyelashes, tiaras, lightweight boots were mentioned in the Military Times article…even hands in pockets I’d bet is more about women complaining about their hands getting cold than anything else.

    Why don’t they just cut right to the chase and restrict enlistments to women only. We could be the first military in the world with an all volunteer – all woman Navy. That would get us some woke cred wouldn’t it?

    Men could still join, of course, they’d just have to declare themselves tranny and wear women’s uniforms.

    And fake eyelashes.

          1. The US Constitution, unlike the Uke Constitution has no loophole for cancelling elections. In 1814 elections were held even though the capitol had been captured during the war a few months before. Elections were held in 1864 as well although those in states in rebellion couldn’t vote.

    2. Plus RIMPAC will be going on this summer, with ships from a lot of partner nations being around Hawaii. This always pisses off the Coolies to no end.

      China is pissed because:

      Add in their military is as corrupt as Russia’s and it’s not a very rosy picture over there.

Gives all new meaning to the term “hot bunk”.
