Happy Anniversary!

Just a quick reminder to all:

Our nation’s American flag was flown in battle for the first time, during a Revolutionary War skirmish at Cooch’s Bridge, Delaware on this day in history, Sept. 3, 1777, according to History.com.

“Patriot General William Maxwell ordered the Stars and Stripes banner was raised as a detachment of his infantry and cavalry met an advance guard of British and Hessian troops,” the same source said.

At that point in history, in a report to the delegates, Charles Thompson, the secretary of the Continental Congress, stated that the white in the flag “signifies purity and innocence,” the red “hardiness and valor” and the blue “signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice,” the same source chronicled.  Fox News

We lost that skirmish back then, but went on to win the war.

Good info in the article. She looks pretty good for 246, huh?

Remember the words of Johnny Cash: “I’m proud of all the freedoms we have …including the right to burn the flag. (Many boos) Hush, now… we also have the right to bear arms, and if you burn MY flag, I will shoot you. But I will shoot you with love in my heart as a good American should.”

    2. “Our nation’s American flag was flown in battle for the first time, during a Revolutionary War skirmish at Cooch’s Bridge”

American music indeed with reference to Muddy Waters and
      Hoochie Coochie Man.

    3. Hack Stone’s Uncle Jack on Mamma Stone’s side of the family, not to be confused with Uncle Jack on Pappa Stone’s side of the family, said that he served in the Air Force with Johnny Cash. Uncle Jack said he was just like every other GI. You never know how that one guy in the platoon will turn out in later life.

  2. Sad state of affairs when the burning/desecration of Our Glorious National Symbol is considered “Free Speech”, but the burning/desecration of any other “flag” is considered to be “Hate Speech”.

    This We’ll Defend

Happy Birthday Old Glory! May you have many more.
