“Roscosmos, We Have a Problem”

Russia’s Luna-25 mission — its first moon effort since 1976— successfully reached lunar orbit on 16 August. The spacecraft seemed to be in good shape.

“All Luna-25 systems are functioning normally; communication with it is stable. Sessions are being taken to measure the current navigational parameters,” Russia’s space agency Roscosmos reported in a Telegram post.

Next was a planned touchdown near the moon’s south pole. This did not go well.

Russian Spacecraft Crashes Into Moon After Reporting ‘Abnormal Situation’

MOSCOW (AP) – The Russian space agency says its Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the moon.

Russia’s unmanned robot lander crashed after it had spun into uncontrolled orbit, the country’s space agency Roscosmos reported.

The launch earlier this month was Russia’s first since 1976 when it was part of the Soviet Union. The crash comes after Roscosmos reported an “abnormal situation” that its specialists were analyzing on Saturday.

“During the operation, an abnormal situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed with the specified parameters,” Roscosmos said in a Telegram post.

The Russian mastery of the understatement is impressive.

    1. They never did find out why the lights on the control panel were blinking randomly.

  1. “Ohski shitski, Spacecraft crashski!” Maybe those building it had a little too much vodka while doing so?

  2. Why did they use the French cannon fired manned capsule in the above pic that went to the moon back in 1902. That one is I would say, kind of old. They could have used a newer version.

  3. I thought the headlines were supposed to be all about Russians colluding…not Russians colliding. Blame it on Trump…after all, he’s the one that started a war with them.
