  1. Can we afford the lumber to build all of the scaffolds that will be needed, or do we say f^ck it and just use lampposts? Asking for a friend.

        1. Aim low, Boys. I saw what you did there. Lewis Grizzard grins. And let’s not forget this little bit of wisdom from My Boy, LG, so very appropriate for the times: RIP, Good Sir.

“If you want something sweet, order the pound cake. Anybody who puts sugar in the corn bread is a heathen who doesn’t love the Lord, not to mention Southeastern Conference football.”

      1. Plus, you can use that same rope over and over again. A good length of hemp rope can be used about a hundred times before one needs to worry about wear and tear.

  2. Young Poe first saw that warning about “guessing when the guard is on duty” at a rundown old roadside filling station/grocery store in the hills of rural eastern Mississippi almost fifty years ago. The place looked like it was probably more than fifty years old even then.

A faded old hand-lettered cardboard sign affixed to the rickety old wooden screen door read:

“This here place is guarded three nights a week with a pump 12 gauge. You guess which three.”

Poe chuckled about the folksy wisdom of that all the way back to Pensacola and quoted it many times during the ensuing decades.
