The Good Idea Fairy is back, at least at Walmart.

Walmart drone delivery launches in Florida, Texas, Arizona markets

Cities include Tampa and Orlando, Florida; Phoenix and the Dallas-area

For the first time ever, some Walmart customers in Florida, Texas and Arizona will be able to have their packages delivered by drone.
Walmart’s drone service officially launched for select customers in Tampa and Orlando, Florida; Phoenix and the Dallas-area just ahead of the holidays.

The nation’s largest retailer has been working with national drone services provider DroneUp since 2020 when it began trialing deliveries of at-home COVID-19 self-collection kits.

Walmart announced in May 2022 that it was expanding its DroneUp delivery network to reach 4 million U.S. households across six states including Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Utah and Virginia by the end of the year.

This means drone deliveries will be available in 23 cities across the nation by the end of the year, according to Walmart.

“Our approach is unique; we practice safety above all else and incorporate state-of-the-art technology,” DroneUp CEO Tom Walker said in a statement.

Dirty secret in the airline industry- safety is expensive. No difference here. “State-of-the-Art Tech” is laughable- as defined by a marketeer? Show me spec compliance. The only obvious beneficiaries will be the porch pirates.
The smart ones will wait for the Amazon drones.

  1. “State-of-the-art” means about as much to me as “Military Grade”which says to me that it was made by the lowest bidder!

  2. Mail and delivey service was exceptionally bad this holiday season around here. Anything that offers a chance at improvement is fine by me.

  3. I saw that the Russians claim to have shot a Ukrainian drone down well inside Russia, and the ROKS got a Nork drone close to Seoul. Be heatin’ up. Skynet?
