Boomer’s Today

It’s time once again, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, for Boomer’s Sunday, where I sort through the weekly offering of ‘toons and pick the best. Toons are provided by Boomer and AW1 Scott, with many others contributing.

Disclaimer: These toons are meant to amuse, entertain and inform, pretty much in that order. While I cull what I can, they are not specifically fact-checked, so expect a certain amount of artistic license.

Forget? Forgive isn’t looking real promising either.

Haggling over the price.

  1. To be historically accurate – it was not only Boone’s Farm Strawberry Hill, but Mad Dog 2020, which was commonly referred to as MD2020. And who can forget Thunderbird, or its affectionate nickname, “The Bird”?

    1. Add Southern Comfort and Bacardi 151 to the list too, but’s those who imbibed them in the 70’s seemed to miss out, it says 80’s and 90’s…

Just my luck, thought my boat came in but it sank at the dock!

      1. Ripple morphed into Boone’s Farm. It was an earlier product.

All under the category of cheap ass alcohol enhanced wine. A whino’s dream.

          1. Sorry, should have said ‘replaced’ vs. ‘morphed.’

            From Wikipedia on fortified wines:

            • Ripple was a fortified and carbonated wine[8] that was popular in the United States, particularly in the 1970s (and made famous by Fred G. Sanford of Sanford and Son). Possessing a low 11% ABV (lower than modern table wines), it was originally marketed to “casual” drinkers.[9] Due to its low price, it gained a negative reputation as a drink for destitute alcoholics. It was popular among young drinkers, both underage and college students, due to its low price. It was later replaced with Boone’s Farm.[10]
            1. It was my grandpa’s drink of choice. He consumed a bottle of it practically every day the last 20 years of his eighty-something lifespan. It made him meaner than a rattlesnake. My grandmother wouldn’t divorce him, but she left him when he was in his fifties. Fortunately, he lived in another state for most of my childhood.

    2. “What’s the price?—-$0.60 twice
      What’s the reason?—-Grapes in season”.

I preferred the subtle fruitiness of Ripple, myself.

    3. Late 60s and into the 70s. Glad to graduate from that, though had a Scout patrol leader who never did tell how he got crushed ice and supplies out to a remote camp for frozen daiquiris. Bastard.

  2. OK, now that shot of Pigalousy and Z Man was just wrong on so many levels. Shoulda used that Daisy Red Ryder to put BOTH of my eyes out. God will get you for that, Kid Squid (ht2 Ol’ Poe)

    1. I imagine it going down more like that scene in Kingpin where Woody Harrelson sleeps with his landlord then pukes up his guts.

  3. I’m arguing with myself as to which is the correct verbiage…….

    Witch in a Ditch

    Or

    Bitch in a Ditch

  4. Boone’s Farm?
Hell no; sterno and corn squeezin’s run through a rad-ee-ater. Made me the sub-genus I am t’day.
