Actor Clarence Gilyard, Jr. dies

Actor and one-year Air Force Academy student Clarence Gilyard, Jr. died at the age of 66 from undisclosed causes after a long and reasonably successful Hollywood career spanning TV shows like “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “Matlock”, as well as fan favorites like Christmas movie “Die Hard” and of course AW1Ed’s beloved “Top Gun”.

Jason Smith wrote: “Oh my goodness. Clarence Gilyard Jr. Die Hard, Top Gun. Legendary roles. Legendary career. And a beloved UNLV professor. R.I.P.”

Screenwriter Ben Trebilcook typed: “Sad to learn of the passing of Professor Clarence Gilyard.

“A terrific actor, too, whom of course played Theo in #DieHard, a surviving character I brought back in my Die Hard 6.

Die Hard 6? Thought the last one was 5…and wondered why they did that. In any case: Mr. Gilyard most recently played the real-life role of film and drama Professor at UNLV.

No word yet on Ed’s mourning period or if he will retire his personal tribute Rayban 3513s.

    1. I’m glad that I’ve aged so much better than they have! (Especially William Defoe. GD man!)

      1970 in the house!

    2. DAYUM! What does that make me? I was born 1952.
      Older than dirt, I’m guessing.
And holding up better than most of them, too.

  2. Rest Easy, Good Sir. Very good character actor and did not seem to push his politics on the viewers. I see him on the re-runs of Matlock and Walker, never saw the originals. Never saw him in The Movie That Remains Unmentioned. I’m sure that the script they gave him for that part was as historically accurate as the other parts were.

David, welcome to the list of the hated that have the need to speed into the danger zone, will not put snarky remarks on ice, man, and have lost that loving feelin’ for all things TC.

I think our Beloved AW1Ed is putting in for the part of Naval Flight Test Engineer on the upcoming TG III.

    1. Sundown is cleared for immediate take off.
Once airborne, departure heading 270, unlimited climb.

  3. He’ll always be remembered as Theo, the computer-hacking thief who gets coldcocked by a limo driver in “Die Hard”…..an unlikely (but very successful) holiday movie.

Christmas just isn’t Christmas, until Hans Gruber plummets to his death from the 30th floor of Nakatomi Plaza.

    1. Hans: You can Break the Code?
Theo: You didn’t bring me along for my sparkling personality!

  4. I see what you did there David,
    like Christmas movie β€œDie Hard””
    Well played. (and I agree)

      1. My Grandson will be joining us for the Christmas Eve viewing. He will be wearing the Sweatshirt!
