By now you’ve heard the story of Will Smith coming up on the stage and slapping Academy Awards host Chris Rock after Rock joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.  Most people in Hollywood are waiting to find out which way the wind blows to determine how they will come down on this.

Meanwhile, the memes are out in full force.

Some suggest that Smith saw Chris Rock as an easy target…

Seriously though, veteran Georgios Pardos had an interesting take on this – he claims that Will Smith suffers from trauma bonding.

Some believe it was all a stunt. The Academy Awards were suffering from a lack of viewership after all. It appeared to be real, however.

Acting up has reached sports, the Grammys, and now the Academy Awards. People tend to have the same reaction – they just tune in for sports and/or entertainment and can do without the personal drama.

    1. My wife and I are fighting about that right now. They don’t react like two men have a physical altercation. Rock’s only response was to step back into his spot and continue and Smith walked away not expecting retaliation just like they had rehearsed it that way.

      1. My take too. Staged. Only thing missing was Juicy walking by eating a sub sammich. Like Jeff, and prolly many others here, I have yet, in all my years, to watch ANY of the Hollyweird Brag Fests. As long as the “actors/actresses” make me laff, blow something up, or show me some eye candy, I’ll watch a motion picture or Tee Vee Show. Leave yo drama wid yo Mama.

        Maybe Chris shoulda had Alec as his bodyguard. Too soon?

I haven’t watched an Academy Awards in at least the past thirty years and I continue to ignore that smooch-fest of pampered, prissyassed rich overprivileged out-of-touch celebrities kiss each others’ asses. As soon as I heard about it, my first thought was that it was a planned publicity stunt just like the “wardrobe malfunction” during a Super bowl halftime show.

    Didn’t even try to block, let alone hit back in rage.

  12. I think it was staged. Watch Chris Rock lean to his left just before the slap. That way he can move farther to the right after contact to make it look more impactful.

    1. He definitely made contact. You can hear the smacking sound and see Rock’s cheek wobble a bit.

    And Rock refuses to press charges. Too bad. I was looking forward to Smith’s next celluloid shitfest being a Prison Bitch movie.

  15. IDGAF about actors, athletes or other in the entertainment business. AFAIAC plumbers and carpenters are far more important as they actually do something necessary. I have never watched any of the entertainment award shows. There are other things to do like play solitaire or take a nap.

  18. Am speculating that some of you may have been way too young to remember this unique event occurring on Oscar Night, 1974…or perhaps not even born.

    I still remember watching this LIVE on our Black and White TV with Rabbit ears….

    STILL a classic all its own. Especially the wittiness of David Niven.

      I just read comments by two black grievance mongers who explained why this whole kerfuffle at the Oscars was caused generally by white supremacy. Apparently, being critical of Will Smith’s conduct is some demonstration of the racism of white society. I guess in a true Black culture without “systemic white racism,” these dudes should have been allowed to beat each other to death. Cuz after all, Chris dissed Will’s woman.

      As a result of watching “The First 48 Hours,” I have learned that Black males are justified in shooting each other if one gives a mean look to another. It is called “mean muggin.”

      But not to be outdone, several progdagandists have noted that this altercation was really all Donald Trump’s fault, somehow.

    1. I”m glad we know OJ’s reasonable opinion on this event. Too bad his rationality wasn’t operative for Ron Goldman and OJ’s ex-wife. It is also unfortunate that we don’t have Brandon’s take on the slap-down. I suspect he would have given us his opinion instead of one written on a card for him by his handlers, as I doubt they would have been prepared for the question.

      I agree Joe would have tried to work Beau in somehow, or possibly the Corn Pop story.
