Rumor coming out of Ukraine is that a single Ukrainian Air Force pilot, driving a Mig-29 Fulcrum has downed six Russian aircraft in the skies over the besieged country’s capital. If true, he’s the first ace (five or more kills) of the 21st Century. He/She would be the first ace since the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s.
Reports are coming that a Ukrainian pilot has shot down 6 Russian Aircraft today and might have possibly become the first 21st century fighter ace.
The pilot, known as “the Ghost of Kyiv” and his MiG-29 were seen in numerous videos from today.

It’ll be great if this is true, but in my estimation it’s probably (sadly) not.
If there’s actually been a Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot zorching around out there as a singleton without at least one wingman, he ain’t gonna last long. Not in that threat environment.
Russian fighters will get the drop on him pretty quick…

If the Ukrainians actually had a MiG-29 pilot with 6 air-to-air kills against the Russians already, the HUD tapes of those 6 kills would be all over the international news and social media by now.

I think American Fighter pilots of World War II got to count planes destroyed on the ground.
Those are usually tallied separately under “aircraft destroyed”. Same with tanks, trains, and trucks. They are all referred to as “destroyed” vice an air-to-air “kill”.
Forgot to mention that in WWI there were separate tallies for balloons shot down, with “balloon aces.” There were barrage balloons in WWII, but since they were all unmanned, I don’t think anyone got credit for blasting one.
True or not I think Putin may have underestimated how hard the Ukrainians were going to fight. The BDA numbers of vehicle kills seem high but if true would explain the lack of apparent progress by Russian forces.
If Snake Island is a representation of death before surrender than the battle for Kiev will be epic. If the Population disperses and goes all Chechen on them than it could be decades of fighting. It will literally never be over.
