When a broken ankle is good

metro

Two folks were killed this afternoon in a subway train accident on the DC’s Metro Red Line between Fort Totten and Takoma Park – the last two stops in the District. Yep, that’s my train and I’d have been on the Metro this afternoon if I hadn’t been getting my cast off instead. Local news video;

It looks from the news reports at least one of the trains was headed towards Shady Grove – if they were both headed to Shady Grove, they were probably fairly empty since most of the people in DC are headed the other way to the suburbs while this train was headed into the city.

There’s a streaming live video of the scene at the local Fox 5 station, and a live streaming video of the news broadcast.

UPDATE: There are 4 confirmed fatalities. 1 was the female train operator.

  1. Can’t begin to tell you how happy I am you were not on that train.

    Very sad to hear that people perished.

  2. Condolences to those families affected. By the grace of God…Good to hear your O.K.

  3. Oh, man, luck of the draw. Glad to hear you weren’t on the train.

    Strange how things like that happen, eh? My Mom and her business partner were supposed to be in south Manhattan picking up a morning flower delivery for their wedding business, but, the shipment was delayed. Date was 9/11/2001.
