Space Force Was Set to Announce Its New Rank Structure

Err, shouldn’t that be “Vice Admiral” Nina M. Armagno? *grin* AW1 Rod sends.

Then, Congress Stepped In

By Oriana Pawlyk

The U.S. Space Force was all ready to move ahead with announcing a rank structure — until lawmakers stepped in, according to the newest military branch’s top enlisted adviser.

Chief Master Sgt. Roger Towberman on Wednesday said that an amendment proposed by Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, that would require the service to use Navy ranks, stalled the sixth’s military branch’s plans to roll out a personnel structure

“So we’ve got to let that law, that legal system play out, and until it plays out, there’s really no point right moving forward,” Towberman said during a Q&A segment during the Air Force Sergeants’ virtual symposium.

Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who was medically retired as a lieutenant commander, proposed an amendment in the House version of the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, requiring “the same system and rank structure as is used in the Navy,” for the Space Force according to a summary of the text. The House and Senate have passed their versions of the NDAA, and the chambers will meet to iron out the differences after the August recess.

Heh. I suppose y’all know how I’ll vote. Read the rest of the article here: Military.com

Thanks, AW1 Rod.

            — Would you like to know more??

  2. Crenshaw didn’t need to stick his nose in this one. He doesn’t have a pony in the race. I’m sure when he was on AD he was like the rest of us, wishing Congress did the bare minimum micromanaging.

I’m fine using naval-style officer ranks, and even enlisted. If we’re gonna use that style, then we better f-ing improve on it and not use the “same system and rank structure.” Ranks, ratings, NECs, it’s all befuddling. We can and should do better.

    1. “Bring back Spec 7” 😆 😆 😆 😛

Yep, all the pay with NONE of the responsibilities of command over a platoon on micreanted delta whiskies.

Didn’t we just have this conversation? Why am I on the floor with Ex laffing til I peed?

If it’s a separate force, let them have their own rank structure…And ALL Commanders look like Erin Gray.

        1. MI Ranger, it “got hard” for me to make up my mind which one to post. Yesterday’s was the youtube so it would show without clicking. I culled thru pic after pic after pic before I settled on the one I did post. I have ALWAYS been a leg and thigh man and with the contrast of the black stockings and white skirt. The slobber was real!

Not sure about the pistol looking huge, but she sure made my “gun” a larger caliber. 😉 😛

      1. She’s still not too bad … check her out as Commodore Gray in a couple of episodes of “Star Trek Continues” on YouTube.

        1. I’d let her handle my phaser rifle any time… Hell, she could dress me up as a Red Shirt and handle my phaser rifle.

        1. Between her and Princess Ardala, they’re the only reason that show stayed on as long as it did.

  4. Dan? Oh, Dan! Don’t you have anything better to be doing these days? Seems like there are plenty of things other than this for you to concern yourself with.

Rank structure should be the least of our worries. Guess just using something similar to USAF would be too easy.

  5. Just flip a coin and be done with it.

    Heads, Navy wins.

    Tails, everyone else loses.

    Easy peasy.

  6. I propose this rank structure:
    E-1= spaceman basic
    E-2= spaceman
    E-3= spaceman 1st class
    E-4= senior spaceman
    E-5= space force Sgt.
    E-6= Tech. space force Sgt.
    E-7= Master space force Sgt.
E-8= Chief Master space force Sgt.
E-9= Senior Chief Master space force Sgt.
officer ranks use the naval nomenclatures of ensign thru admiral
part AF part Navy, what could go wrong ?
