105-year-old WWII veteran celebrates milestone birthday with drive-by salute

Major Bill White, USMC (ret)

A couple of days late in catching this, so I apologize for that. This is a story that will warm the stone cold hearts of all you DWs. From Fox News;

Retired Maj. Bill White, believed to be the oldest living Marine, celebrated a socially distanced 105th birthday with a drive-by salute from his Stockton, Calif., neighbors.

The Mustang Major’s bio is impressive. From the article;

After joining the Marine Corps in 1934, White served on active duty for 30 years. During World War II, he fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima and received the Purple Heart for injuries from a grenade blast.

Half a decade later, White would also serve during the Korean War.

Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, White worked for the Huntington Beach Police Department as a reserve officer until he transitioned into a full-fledged officer. Eventually, he became a jailer.

In addition, he volunteered 30 years with the Boys Scouts Explorer Post 563, which later became Huntington Beach Search and Rescue Explorer Post  563.

Happy 105th Birthday, Major! Semper Fi!

  1. Semper Fi and Happy Birthday Good Sir. May you continue to be a burr under the saddle of liberals and an inspiration to us all for many more years.

    Saw this earlier when it FIRST broke. Surprise of surprises, ABC actually ran a segment on the National News, Sunday I think it was And they did a good job. Had also seen the blurb back in Jan/Feb when his “kids” were trolling to get him a load of Valentine’s Day Cards. That Mission was a resounding success too.

  2. Hope the Major writes a book about his experiences in the Corps during WWII and at Iwo, if he hasn’t done so yet. Memories of WWII are fading, and new words of experience and wisdom from the Greatest Generation helps to get the word out that we have been and are still living in the greatest country the Good Lord has seen fit to put on this green earth…

  3. F’n A. Took one on Iwo SEVENTY FIVE YEARS AGO and he’s still kicking ass and lookin’ good in uniform.

    Means he was thirty years old, a full blown MAN when he hit that island. Wow.

  4. Congratulations Sir, from one mustang major to another. Though I did not make it as long as you in the military I hope I will last as long as you in life!
    We will see you on the high ground!

  5. Belated Happy Birthday to the Major. Noticed the Major has jump wings on his uniform. Was he a Para Marine? That would make him very rare, especially in this day and age. Very few WWII Vets left, even fewer Marines and even fewer Para Marines….God bless men like him.
